Birmingham Northern Beltline We need projects like the Bham N. Beltline that will bring ppl in2 JeffCo rather than an elevated 280 that makes it easier 2 leave

I'm sure Shelby County would be happy to have several large business parks so the money would stay in the County. Birmingham has a lot more to lose than Shelby if something isn't done with the horrible traffic problems on 280. Not sure how much rent the Blue Bloods in Mtn Brook can collect from empty buildings.

We need both projects. Lets don't pit one versus the other. Both are necessary to promote economic development in the Greater Bham metro area.

It is not clear to me, who/what is the driving force for the NBL. Since the Chamber is no longer, is it MPO? ALDOT? It just seems to be in limbo.
(Although, I am told that they are progressing with studies)
How many years can a line on a map tie up our properties and communities?
At this rate, the NBL right of way will... create blighted area and in fact have a negative impact on our area. It is bad enough that North Jeff Co has been neglected for so many years we should at least do no harm.
Any thoughts, ideas????
Are there any laws that would limit the amount of time a state can tie up your property and not accomplish anything?

The Coalition for Regional Transportation is the lead group on the Beltline right now. Unclear what the Birmingham Business Alliance will do with the project.

Contrary to what some opponents believe, the Northern Beltline will benefit the City of Birmingham. Residents who move to areas opened up by the project will no doubt be drawn to Birmingham's restaurants, concerts, and cultural events, meaning more revenues for those businesses and taxes for the city. In addition, Bi...rmingham could annex currently unincorporated areas into the city to boost its declining tax base.Read More

If we could just sweep out all of the corrupt politicians from City of Birmingham and Jefferson County, maybe we could get something positive accomplished around here. Maybe the rest of the world could see what a great place to locate a business our area is. We need economic development, particularly the kind that the Northern Beltline would provide.

Birmingham Northern Beltline In early 2009, Birmingham business leaders voted to make the Northern Beltline the top federal priority of the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce, due in large part to the economic development potential of the project.

Debra Tidwell Garrett This project needs to get the go a head or scrap it!!! I am tired of my house and subdivision being tied up. We can't sell, we can't do renovations..It is all about maintaining!!! That is so unfair!!

Mary Alice Kenley I'm a huge X and NBL fan! Strategic alliances proved to be the key to X, and the same will be the case if/when NBL happens. Mary Alice Kenley

Birmingham Northern Beltline Clayton Mark Turner Completely agree we need to move the N Beltline forward. Unfortunately, small, but vocal, opposition groups have slowed the project down. ALDOT, however, continues to make significant progress on completing the regulatory steps necessary to build the project. Along those lines, ALDOT will soon hold a public design hearing for the section from Old Springville Road to I-59.

Clayton Mark Turner Just make a decision. 8 years after telling people you are literally building a highway in their backyard the lack of decisiveness is ridiculous.

I'm a war-weary veteran on this issue. It's according to who's doing the telling, whether or not they have the clout to make it happen. It's a long and windy road (pun intended) to progress on a highway. On X, the opposition was from those who'd heard it, like you, for years--like about 40 years!--and really didn't think it could happen. But, ... Read Morealas, the good people of northeast Alabama finally agreed on something (Are you listening, JeffCo and Bham?) and it happened. Mr. Shelby has said there's no limit to what we can do if we can agree. That's the sticking point.

Billy Garrett Our house is right in the midst of the off ramp from I-65. We have been in limbo for years now. I just wished they would build it or forget it.

Birmingham Northern Beltline An extremely disappointing and biased PBS story discussing the Northern Beltline. Watch the video and try to argue with a straight face that PBS even tried to provide an objective viewpoint.
