We've just put together a new Q&A answering some of the key points about swine flu for anyone who has a heart condition - or knows someone who does - and is worried about it. It's also a pretty useful read even if you don't have a heart condition...

Shepherd Philip Is anyone else taking a combination of Clopidogrel and Lansoprazole as part of your daily medication? I got a letter from my GP with a new perscription for Ranitidene 300 twice a day and stop taking Lanzoprazole as this effects the Clopidogrel just thought I would pass this on as I was at the Hospital this morning having my Coronary Rehab and this was news to the nurse as well,Better to be safe than sorry

Hi Clare,
I real feel for you (and everyone else who has replied). I have no idea what it must be like for you, but what I just wanted to say is try not to let it scare you too much. Doctors can do amazing things. My daughter, who is 7 now, was born with a congenital heart defect. If she had been born 30 years ago, she would not have been so ... Read Morelucky, but there are so many treatments nowadays and operations that can be done, that people with heart disease have a much better chance of leading a normal life. She had an operation at 10 months and things are going well - to look at her you would have no idea there was anything wrong - she can run around, ride her bike and play for hours. I'm sure after your operation you will feel great again. Good luck with everything. xxx

Deborah Noble I am a district nurse, who worked in the cardiac unit at our local hospital for more than 10 yrs. If it wasnt for the BHF and supporting groups, would we have all the equipment and support today. I really dont think we would. people are now aware that the feeling of indegestion or heart burn may not be just eating to fast or to much This is because of the BHF adverts on TV, and we now know it just does not effect the old ( even though my kids think 40 is old). So well done BHF and i really hope the donations keep coming because we need people like you for support and to keep us all aware.

Simon Lewis I was diagnosed in 1970 with a leaky aortic valve. Was always told that by the time i was forty there was a strong possibility i would need a replacement valve. Well am 42 and i have a specailist at the Surrey Cardiac clinic and they have now said the leak is quite bad. They sent me for a scan at the the Brompton in London. They now say they will monitor it and control it medically. Have not heard anymore. Of course the whole family have had nearly 40 years to get used to the fact that I will probably be having a major operation. My finance who is a wonderful person has only had a few years and is fretting quite badly. She's been told it's very routine now but is worrying herself sick.

I had an MI aged 54. I have heard that there is a possible link with with preeclampsia in pregnancy, and high blood pressure and heart conditions in middle age. Have any of you ladies had the same experience?? There is plenty of evidence on the net to corroborate these claims.
If so, shouldn't ladies in this position be classed as at risk. At least a conversation should take place, and preventative measures should be offered.
I believe if I had been aware of this I would have been able to make an informed choice of whether to take preventative medication or not. Too late for me, but not for others.

A cardiac arrest happens when the heart stops pumping blood around the body because of a disturbance in the normal heart rhythm.
