Black NRW Blog Congo (RDC) wird 50: A Silenced History from Belgian Congo: A Mixed Race History: ...Through the testimony of two dozens of mixed race Belgians born in Congo we have tried to tell a story which is mostly unknown to the Belgian and Flemish public. [...] They were all people born during colonization from one black and on...e white parent. Some of them grew up in their families but most of them weren’t recognized by their fathers and were taken away from their mothers at a very young age. The colonial authority separated these children from their mothers to raise them in schools only for ‘mulatto children’. At independence the colonial authorities decided to deport the younger once (between 2 and 16 years old) to Belgium to be adopted in Belgian families. The circumstances are still unknown, which children were send over and why is still a mystery. Even the exact number of children deported is hard to tell. TableTalk: The Virtual Round-TableTableTalk: The Virtual Round-Table discussions are a twice yearly interview series highlighting the reality of women of African descent living and working in Europe. These events have been designed to give us an opportunity to share and compare our personal experiences and challenges with women of color in other European countries. It also provides us with a platform to share our perspective with other women of African descent in other parts of the world, especially in the Americas.

Moderator/facilitator of this insightful series will be Trina Roach, herself an American who has lived in Germany for more than 30 years. Motivated by her own personal expat experience, Trina created this series to further facilitate communication and knowledge-sharing between all women of the African Diaspora
