Rozemary Hess of Bristol, VA is no stranger to the Bristol Public Library. She’s been attending the Teen Program since she was 13. Now at the age of 18, Rozemary is putting her artistic skills to work in the Teen Section of the library. What once was a bare wall is now a mural in the making.
The mural started as a draft... on a sheet of blank paper a few months ago and is now coming to life. Rozemary’s planning process is to draw the mural with pencil, outline the sketch with black paint and color the images to completion. This is her first mural and although she has no formal training, she’s moving right along. “I am hoping to inspire other teens to do what they love and to not stop because someone tells you it’s too hard. I’m not a professional, but I’m following my dreams”, she says. “Years from now, I want to look back on my first piece and be glad that I took the chance”.
Within a few weeks, the mural should be finished and Rozemary will have the mural to share with all the patrons of the library. The mural features characters from many well known literary works as well as prominent figures from the past- all reading books. “What better way to add to our department than to use the resources from one of our very own talented teens?” says Tonia Totten, Teen Librarian.
The Bristol Public Library is located in downtown Bristol, VA at 701 Goode Street. We encourage everyone to stop by and see this amazing work in process. For questions about the mural or any other teen events and programs, call 276-821-6192 or email ttotten@bristol-library.org.Read More
