I've gone out to the Monday Night Open Mic at the Shirlington location and found it to be a nice, intimate atmosphere for poets interested in sharing their work. This, however, was when it was FREE. NOW, THEY ARE CHARGING A COVER CHARGE just like the other locations. I'm really disappointed. Usually when I go, I order food and drinks so why force the public to pay a cover. This seriously hampers my decision to return. Why does EVERYTHING have to cost money? I may just start up my own open mic poetry sessions at my home! Ridiculous.

I stopped twice while I was on vacation in D.C. Good atmosphere, great food. The staff was friendly. The mahi mahi was very good. The sweet potato fries were the best I've ever had. I also particularly liked the selection of books in the bookstore. A very interesting place as a whole.

I've been there a couple times, once on a Sunday morning. The food was fantastic, the waiter was very nice and I got the food relatively quickly, considering how many people were there. I had to take some leftovers home, but when I left the restaurant I realized I had left it on the table. I rushed back inside to get it and they actually spent the time to go and look for the sandwich, which I thought was very nice. I went another time on a Saturday night, there was a live pianist who was awesome, and the food was once again great. The atmosphere is great, and the bookstore is a nice place to stay while you wait to be seated.

We (party of six) were told we would have a 20 minute wait for a table. After half an hour we were told the wait might be another half hour and would we like to sit outside (an option we were told was not available when we entered, even though there were lots of empty tables). We agreed, provided we could sit by one of the outdoor heaters. We were seated by the only heater that didn't work (the waitress, we understood later, knew this), and the staff not only would not move us, but treated us rudely (we were, until the end, when it was ridiculous, being gracious). We completely understand how hard it is to anticipate tables, but their treatment was astonishing. It's too bad that we weren't told when we walked in that a party of six was touch and go and we should look elsewhere.

What a lovely afternoon we spent last Saturday, February 16, at the DC Busboys, listening to Joe Martin reading from his play adaptation of the Mathnavi. Some very interesting people were there. Loved Andy Shallal and his peace talk afterwards. It was wonderful also to hear the comments of Andy's wife who is practising Sufism. Event started at four and we didn't feel like going home until after dinner at 10 p.m. Actually felt like a big living room, surrounded by old and new friends - thanks to everybody for a great event!

Went to the infamous open Mic night (Tuesdays, 9 - 11 PM) with friends Becca and Bill, had a little grub and nerd time beforehand. Food was awesome (um, esp. the white chocolate bread pudding dessert). Wi-fi hook up was on-point, as was server "Loren" (who also did a little number of the Mic later in the evening... niiice).
Poetry was raw, honest and all over the place. I beat my fork on the table with the crowd, tried to keep a beat with snaps and claps. Fun release. A DC experience m-u-s-t.
