For many Salinas-area residents, giving back to the community means sending occasional checks to charitable organizations. Today, one 23-year-old will be honored for doing much, much more.

Thanks! I've been working with CPP Special Collections for over 4 years and even after graduating I stop by once in a while to drop off stuff that I've collected for them and identify places on their old maps and aerials (my area of research at Special Collections is physical plant development - growth of campus proper). My relationship with CPP-SC... Read More started with a simple question on a proposed major street through the western portion of the CPP campus (San Dimas Aveue) adjacent to Mt San Antonio College as portrayed in a 1975 yearbook that also included plans for a faculty apartment village. I also advise the librarian on new low-cost local history books and copies old manuscripts that she can acquire out-of-pocket to add to the collection. I even added material to their famed wine industry collection.

Suyapa Lopez Padilla could have avoided deployment and finished her international business degree. Instead, she will be promoted to sergeant and will deploy in March on a mission to help Iraqi civilians. (February 18, 2008)

I hope so too; but if the CSU is not looking at why people choose not to attend, then, I think, that is a problem.

My comment focused on the CSU being a more and more undesirable place to attend, not on this student and heroic veteran.

Face it, your posts, even in light of rising student costs and reduced student services, are often falsely optimistic.
