Good beer was hard to come by in Los Angeles during the 1970s. If you wanted something with a bit more flavour and character than a glass of fizzy water, you were out of luck unless, of course, you made your own. Not that it was legal to make home brew in the US at the time but, this being America...

CAMRA - the Campaign for Real Ale, the consumer's champion COMPETITION TIME! WIN TICKETS TO SEE AL MURRAY, PUB LANDLORD

To help with a PR story we are putting together on the eve of the Great British Beer Festival, we are asking people to answer a question about British military heroes in relation to this year's Festival theme. In return people will be entered into a draw to wi...n a pair of tickets to see the comedian Al Murray, Pub Landlord, in London (Hammersmith Apollo) on October 10th.

In relation to the Military Heroes theme at this year's GBBF, Marc Holmes, Festival organiser, said:

'I’ve decided that as this is the Great British Beer Festival, we should have British heroes as a theme and this year will be naming the CAMRA bars after British military heroes. It also made sense to me that we should honour some British heroes and therefore our charity of the festival is the Royal British Legion which campaigns for the serving and ex-Service community.'

CAMRA - the Campaign for Real Ale, the consumer's champion Yesterday, The Publican newspaper kicked off their 'Proud of Pubs Week', a celebration of everything that's great about the British pub.

The paper had a launch party yesterday which saw one man break 3 world records in one day in the art of beer mat flipping- an unusual but fantastic achievement! CAMRA wishes them all ...the best for their week of action to promote UK pubs.
