Carers UK Tell your friends about support for carers. Most people do not see themselves as carers and miss out on help. One way you can help is to tell your friends about the support and information available through Carers UK's facebook page. Click the 'suggest to friends' in left hand column.

Hi Angel,

Have you tried the emergency social work team? You should be able to get their number from the phone book. There are also some emergency carer schemes, but not in every area and each scheme has different rules but worth a try. You can find out if there is one in your area here. http://www.carersuk.org/Information/Findinghelp/EmergencySchemesList

Hi Jennifer,
Karen is right - you are not alone. 1 million people - 1 in 6 carers - have to give up work or cut their hours to care. Enlightened employers are helping working carers have flexible jobs to fit in with their caring situations. The government passed a law giving carers the right to ask for flexible working. But these measures are simply... See More not enough. Support services are simply not there for thousands of carers and they have no option but to give up work. Carers UK is campaigning hard on this with the backing of major employers who are fully aware of the business benefits of keeping employees with caring responsibilities in work, avoiding recruiment and retraining costs.

Dave Spearman

Dave Spearman i think the 80p increase is a joke why dont they just pay us what we are worth we spend everyday caring for our loved ones and xmas is extremely hard as we have to save extra money just to get the things to make it an enjoyable one. the govt dont give a damn about us they are more interested in helping the people who help them

Karen Hopkins I work part-time 0600-1100 then come home and get my boyfriend up,washed, dressed, fed, out, back, tidy the house,do the washing, deal with temper tantrums...and i dont even qualify for carers allowance!i would love to know if carers uk is aware of any other help I may be entitled too? My boyfriend is completely oblivious t...oi the fact that there is an issue and won't accept any help from outside. He is only 2 years since a spinal cord injury made him tetraplegic and has become very aggresive and violent.

Hi angie,
They cannot say this. They cannot decide on your behalf: iIt is your legal right to have a carer's assessment. Your argument is that they cannot put in place a proper package of support without taking into account your needs as a carer. The starting question is whether you are able and willing to provide that care and if yes to look at what support you need, including to have a life outside of caring.
