The SSN was never meant to serve as secret password. It was designed to be deterministic, thus the ability to determine it. That said, good for CMU for making people aware of this. Damn, forgot my 2048 character RSA-SSN.

Yajie Kyra Li

Yajie Kyra Li Dear CMUers,
I wish to have some help from you. I'm an incoming grad student. Since I am to arrive Pittsburgh on July 28 2009, and it’s said most long term leases start Aug 1, there is limited time for me to make new friends and see if we could share a house. I wish to live in a house shared by 2~4 non-Asian students(coz I'm from China,Asia, just wanna experience sth. different, that's all) or recent start-to-work guys .
Any suggestions for me to contact with possible roommates before I come and get such a shared house when we are in Pit? Or you know anyone of your friends are looking for a roommate that I could fit? Huge thanks~~

PS: as for me, I am to major in HCPM.I'm a very easy-going Chinese girl who speaks fluent English, Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese, cooks Chinese food, keeps very good life style and willing to blend in Pittsburgh . :) I'll be very grateful if you could help me on this~~kyrashine@yahoo.cn is my email. aristofox is my skype ID. Thanks again!

Barni Hussein

Barni Hussein Do you think if I apply Early Decision(ED) would boost my chances of getting in? Also, is the MCS good?

Carnegie Mellon University
Carnegie Mellon University
The chances of getting in under Early Decision at Carnegie Mellon aren't any greater than your chances of getting in under Regular Decision (RD). In fact, most of class comes in through RD.

MCS offers some top programs in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematical Sciences. Each department has unique options that won't find anywhere... Read More else. One great thing is MCS's emphasis on undergraduate research. About 70% of students get involved at some point.

Do you have any more questions?

When and how can you schedule visits? I think I read on their website that if you visit before you apply(showing interest) somewhat helps you.Is this true?

And can you give me an idea of what the campus is like?Is it as nice as say...Cornell's? Or is it just really urban?
Carnegie Mellon University
Carnegie Mellon University
You can schedule a visit (interview, group information session and tour) at http://my.cmu.edu/site/admission/page.visit_us

It is true that the admission committee will take into consideration your level of demonstrated interest in Carnegie Mellon when reviewing your application. This can be done by visiting campus, attending an information session... Read More in you hometown or interviewing with an admission counselor or alumni volunteer.

Our campus is located about 5 miles from downtown Pittsburgh. It has a true college campus feel. Sometimes you even forget you're in the city when on campus.
