The link doesn’t provide a lot of detail, but it reads more like people prefer certainty over uncertainty. I suspect that the findings would be different if the comparison was dread vs hope rather than hope vs certainty.

Hope means that, to a degree, you are expecting (or you want) the present situation to improve, and so you don't accept the present situation as satisfying.
