Kasey McNaught Southwick Gordy is excited to join this group with his fellow cavies!

The vet says that Gordy is the biggest guinea pig he has ever seen. Gordy is almost 4 and such a fighter. He was diagnosed with a mammary tumor back in March and he underwent the surgery to get the tumor removed. He has been happy as ever since then. He loves getting his nails clipped by the vet, long hugs, eating spinach (his favorite), is trained to climb on our arms to come out of his cage and potty trained too....he is so smart. We love him so much! We could not ask for a better pet!

Poor, poor Nuttie has mites again---another round of Ivermectin and baths. But even worse, she has developed an ulcer on one foot that was discovered after I found her covered with blood. So she's on antibiotics also. The vet was not very optimistic, saying that the infection often spreads to the bone. The cause? Pos...sibly the result of too much pressure on the foot because she's so FAT. A whopping 3.5 pounds!Read More

Ugh, poor Nuttie. Perhaps a high dose of ABs to start? I have a three-pounder (who is not just "big boned") with a sludge problem. I just started limiting her pellets to see if that helps, and am working on a larger cage.

Thanks, everyone. I will ask the vet about the foot soak tomorrow. He said to apply peroxide twice daily, so we're doing that for now. She's such a GOOD patient!

I took in a pregnant foster this week. She was 1 of 50 rescued by Mainly Rat Rescue of Falmouth, Maine, from a woman in the Albany NY area. All 50 were housed in 2, 25 gallon aquariums & they are all pretty banged up. Poor Angelique is still petrified from her move and relocation. As far as we can tell she's only ...carrying one piglet, so I hope for the best for her & baby! If any of you are interested in adding to your herd (all the pigs are this color & are either abbys, texels or teddies originating from one pair) please let me know and I'll put you in contact with the rescue's owner.Read More

I recently adopted Latte, then a week later brought home Portia, her sister. Been a long time since Mini-pig.
Taffy and Sorbet, the kids were little, our cage was really old, and there is so much good info out there now on the internet on cavies.(Guinea pigs) I am enjoying the girls, and so is my parrot, Akua. I am embarrassed to say he loves to... Read More sit and watch them play, And he stopped plucking himself again. I left the bunnies in their condo due to the new flooring on the sunporch. He missed them, and voila, the wing feathers were flying out in his mouth. He can't see the bunnies as I have them covered up for the bad weather. We both seem to be really enjoying the cavies. I love the noise they make when they seen you coming with something yummy to eat.

Tom and Sally, the two I'm fostering, make continual noises when they are out of the cage. I do love the interactive nature of piggies! :)

Tom and Sally are two foster pigs from a shelter in Vermont. Like many guinea pigs in need of homes, Tom and Sally are cute, cuddly, and entertaining. Please support your local shelters and rescues by adopting a pet, whether it's a guinea pig, cat, dog, or other animal in need.

cavymadness is fostering two guinea pigs for Windham County Humane Society (Brattleboro, VT). I'll be posting a note with more details once I get them settled in.

Sally (the girl) is very young. Tom (the boar) seems older, but not elder. He's very much a gentleman; no rumblestrutting or anything despite being right next to Sally. Both are calm and sweet. I need to find a foster home for them, since Nhan's allergies are kicking in already. :( There is a pending court case, so there is a SLIGHT chance the defendant may get her animals back (highly doubtful; hoarding, with awful conditions and some dead animals).
