The borough assembly candidates will be interviewed on January 7th, and the the assembly will choose the replacement directly afterward.

CBS News 13 Alyeska Pipeline Service Company is considering laying off or relocating personnel from Fairbanks. President and C-E-O Kevin Hosleton made the announcement earlier today. The company is in the process of reviewing the four Fairbanks facilities, where about 2 hundred and fifty individuals are employed. Valdez facilities are under a similar review.

CBS News 13 At about 7:30 this morning, Alaska State Troopers received a 911 call. Dispatchers could hear labored breathing, but no communication was able to be established. When troopers responded to the location off the call in the University area, a naked adult male brandishing a knife opened the door and confronted the trooper.

CBS News 13 Governor Sean Parnell has selected Tammie Wilson to replace John Coghill for the District 11 state house seat. Her appointment needs to be approved by the State House Republicans.

CBS News 13 Governor Sean Parnell will announce the new District 11 state house representative in his Fairbanks office later today. The candidates that were nominated by the District 11 Republicans are Doug Issacson, Mike Prax, and Tammie Wilson. The governor's selection will have to be approved by a simple majority of House Republicans.

CBS News 13 Senator Murkowski has secured a commitment from the Deputy Postmaster General to resume sending Christmas letters to North Pole. According to a press release, Deputy Postmaster General Pat Donahoe told Murkowski in a phone conversation that "the USPS had reconsidered its position not to allow Alaskan volunteers to answ...er letters addressed “Dear Santa, North Pole.”

CBS News 13 The USPS has announced that letters addressed to "Santa Claus" or "The North Pole" will no longer be sent to North Pole, Alaska. Previously, santa letters were sent to the 99705 ZIP code. If they had return addresses, volunteers would send letters back to the children. Now, the letters will simply be shredded.

CBS News 13 Informational meetings are being held to discuss grandfather rights for land usage. The next meeting is at the Ken Kunkel Community Center tomorrow at 6 PM. There is also a meeting Thursday at 6 PM at Two Rivers Elementary School.

CBS News 13 Winter Storm Advisory in effect for the Fairbanks area. Many places will only see between 2-6 inches of snow, but some could see as much as 20 inches.

CBS News 13 Flint Hills has announced that they will be testing well water in the North Pole area for chemicals that may have spread from the North Pole Refinery. While the company maintains that the levels are well below required levels, they are encouraging residents to drink bottled water. Flint Hills will be conducting a door to door survey and taking samples of well water.

CBS News 13 Luke Hopkins is the new borough mayor. The absentee and question counts shows 9107 votes for Luke Hopkins, and 8263 votes for Tammie Wilson. The count will be certified at Thursday's borough assembly meeting, when the new mayor will be sworn in.
