Celtic Ways

Celtic Ways There we go, peaked 70 F this afternoon, making this one of the warmest days this year and being in one of the warmest places in Ireland. Another day like this tomorrow then show down on Saturday. Who's going to the Electric Picnic Festival in Co. Laois this weekend?

Celtic Ways Claire and I are discovering that many more people are interested in retreats in Dublin than time out in rural Co. Sligo, here with the thatched cottage, labyrinth and ancient sites. Woodford House in Dublin is very beautiful, though. Where would you prefer to have some retreat time in Dublin convenient for travel or in rural Co. Sligo convenient for adventure?

Celtic Ways Just watched excellent documentary on Tara mythology and the recent M3 motorway produced by our local man here Columba Stapleton Watch online, three parts, http://live.tg4.ie/main.aspx?level=Faisneis Teamhair (P1) (P2) (P3) , I'm actually in (P2) twice, each time under a second, most fascinating to me was ancient Irish... mythology called "Synthetic History".

        • Debbie Dowdy Thanks for the link I may need it in the future they have some really good prices right now...checked it out!

        • Celtic Ways What I like Debbie is that it also shows, reveals, the hassles of journey time, connecting flights and time hanging around airports. I feel that sometimes its just worth paying the bit extra for a faster more direct flight plan.

Celtic Ways Karma event of the day. On my way back from Sligo thought I would drive through McDonalds to discover why I rarely do that. I have not pulled into McDonalds for over 2 years. I ordered curly fries. As soon as I arrived home, phone went. A group of 70 McDonald executives want to book me for 10 days of storytelling, harp...ing and touring events, with a bit of golf, in early June 2011.

Celtic Ways Quiet day at Carrowcrory today. I was planning labyrinth improvements but back office catch up was more than I anticipated. Weather in Ireland is excellent at present, mainly sunny, coolish low 60 F degrees and forecasted to stay this way for a week. Sunset at 8:30 pm, sunrise 6:30 am.

Celtic Ways The almost full moon, at rising, last night gave a close to perfect alignment with the sanctuary centre of our Two Worlds Tree Labyrinth and Morrigu's (Morrigan's) Pinnacle cairn on Céis Coarran mountain, Co. Sligo. So we have anticipation tonight. Our labyrinth centre has a circle of willows and water. Wishing you all... wonderful gatherings and sharing tonight.

        • Celtic Ways I'll try. I find it hard to take decent moon photos, I need photography lessons, but you have reminded me to get tripod ready as moonrise is 15 minutes before sunset tonight, but that will be warped by a hill behind where we live, so I suspect both will happen at the same time.

Celtic Ways I'm excited! The basket willows of the sanctuary circle in the centre of our Two Worlds Tree Labyrinth have grown enough in the past 3 weeks for me to start weaving them live to gradually create a live willow cairn. It will be a few years before they grow enough to complete this, but for me this is an exciting start.

Celtic Ways I'm hearing from several people coming to Ireland for a vacation in Ireland during the next month and most seem to be heading for city accommodation. I believe that it is the rural life of Erin that provides the most lasting warm memories, and is much, much kinder to the credit card and vacation budget too. Do ask me where you can stay locally.

Celtic Ways Yes, sun out, mist almost gone, lots to do. Its seems Ireland will be a busy place in September. Seems many people are saying, darn, I'm not waiting any longer, I'm going to Ireland for a vacation this year before the summer's done. Some are coming to visit us here at Carrowcrory.

        • Celtic Ways Sorry Shiela sent some out awhile back, and some cds too in the same posting. A few folks have come back to me saying non arrival. That's a big ouch with cds. I have some more blanks drives and am re-doing the USB drive, a couple of new edits to finish, and trying again. I think its a day in to complete this and similar tasks tomorrow.

Celtic Ways Question today: The harp is the symbol of Ireland but harper bards today seem to be scarce, but they are here. Like the physicians, the harper bards were paid with land from kings, gaelic chieftains and later by anglo Irish lords so the income stream from lands allowed them to focus on their bardship. When you think of... harps and bards of Ireland - who do you think of from Irish history or at present?

          • Daniel Brown I think of Irish history, with a wistful wish that I could find someone to teach me how to help keep that history alive .
            August 20 at 12:30pm ·
          • Michelle Asher I am very keen on the Bardic Traditions. I feel that music is a first step on the spiritual path of Druidism. I used to have access to a modern day Bard of sorts. She actually crafted her own Celtic Harp, before she ultimately fell away from her musical inclinations. Very sad...

Using a quote, Daniel, Something lives only as long as the last person who remembers it, trust memory over history.
Memory, like fire, is radiant and immutable
while history serves only those who seek to control it.
At Celtic Ways we focus ...on passed along memories rather than documented history :-) I also believe that is the fundamental role of a bard.See More
