The Chalk Bucket - Gymnastics Community There are some interesting threads on The Chalk Bucket about twisting. "Direction of twist" has always been a big debate in gymnastics. Below is a pretty good discussion on "twisting". What are your thoughts on "direction of twist".

When you're looking at Pirouetting direction vs twisting direction how do you teach your kids. It's taken me a few days to finally wrap my brain

Is it invitational? Are there tryouts? Post how you got picked! It'll be interesting to see how the average gym does this. At my gym it's invitational.

@Dale --- Yes...that worked for me too...great suggestion. The only prob...if I wore them too long...my wrists would get too sweaty and rip easier...like your hands get after you've been in a pool too long.

Once the rip dries a bit add chap stick on it . And when working out put vasoline on it then a plactic baggie ( just a piece) then tape over it. The friction will rub on bag and vasoline and not hurt as much.

It will surprise me if she continues with gymnastics, other than for fun, based upon her interviews lately.

The Chalk Bucket - Gymnastics Community Thought the link below was a good "how to" blog post on gymnastics photography. I shoot a Canon 20D with an 85mm f/1.8 or a 50mm f1.8. The 85mm is a great lens. What do you shoot your gymnastics photos with?

To keep it simple, here's my summary recommendation for equipment and settings (note, you MUST NOT use flash (according to USA Gymnastics rules, for the safety of the gymnasts), so be sure you know how to keep your camera's flash from firing!). ...

Nice Tips... Thanks!
I just shot my first meet with a DSLR. What a difference! Definitely I can see the need for a "higher end" lens like a f/2.8.
As for the flash thing... Some of the Point and Shoots will "recycle" and reset the flash, even if you have it off. I got in the habit of putting a small piece of black electrical tape over the flash... just in case. The picture is no good... but no gymnasts fall off the beam either...

I cant afford really expensive camera, so I use my samsung digital camera in video mode. I then take still images from the video afterwards in the editing software, b/c you can pause the exact frame you want. It's easier for me that way.
