High school students don't use that extra time on early release days to prepare for the next days exams - they are going down to the pony pasture, the mall, etc etc and working parents have one more worry - early release days help out teachers, they do not "help" students and their families. As a teacher I love the work I can get done on early release days, as a parent, I hated them when I had school age kids.

i hope that yall are ready to get a lot of complaints about making us go to school today. trees are down. roads are closed. people dont have power. and we are possibly risking our lives for ONE day of education? i hope that Chesterfield County is ready to get sued when theres some 3-bus accident due this idiocy.

The safety of students is at the forefront of every decision we make. We monitored road conditions overnight and remained in contact with the police department and Virginia Department of Transportation. We are aware that about 20 roads throughout Chesterfield County are closed because of high water. Many of these roads were closed yesterday ... See Moreafternoon at dismissal. Our transportation staff spent yesterday afternoon and last night working to develop routes for buses to use today. Our drivers are careful and methodical, taking the time on the road to ensure that students remain safe. This was evidenced yesterday by the proper decision-making displayed by our drivers.

If they cannot have the day off to spend honoring veterans, it is good to honor and thank them during the day.
