Citizen Action of New York Tell the Senate Republicans to sign onto the short term bipartisan operating agreement!
Source: action.citizenactionny.org
We’re just a day away from threatening hundreds of thousands of jobs and even greater financial difficulties for New York if the Senate Republicans don’t sign on to the short-term bipartisan operating agreement and pass critically urgent legislation set to expire.

Last Monday, billionaire Tom Golisano tried to buy the State Senate. Citizen Action’s grassroots leaders from around New York have stood up to take democracy back. Click “Read More” to see all the news coverage.

Daniel at 6:51am June 17
That is a good step. How do you think the bill will fare in the chaos of the NYS Senate?

Ina at 12:52pm June 17
I am glad it passed. Money can't by everything.

John at 7:05pm June 29
Still has to get through the Senate... makes one long for a unicameral legislature doesn't it?

Citizen Action of New York The State Assembly just introduced a bill to enact a voluntary system of public financing of elections.

Dan Pneuman These are Golisano's words. . .

For far too long, Albany has ignored any calls for reform, preferring to take orders from one special interest after another. In fact, five years ago, the Brennan Center at NYU called New York's...

Tamara Guess we have to wait til Monday to see if New York is in fact qualifies now as a banana republic. Please keep posting re planned demonstrations/protests.

Hiram Monserrate is the man who may hold the key to whether Democrats or Republicans reign in the New York State Senate.

Michael Cabbie Caban How interesting that while I was doing a Playback show for LGBTQI students in Wallkill, NY 2 democratic legislators would become republicans. And they're both being investigated for crimes. What's going on?

Dan Pneuman I watched the news this evening. I applaud all of the protesters actions, millions are seeing your efforts throughout NY state and realizing what is really going on with our legislature.

Citizen Action of New York The public was not allowed into the Senate chamber gallery during the first session of the "coalition government."

Weren't able to make it to Albany today? That's OK! You can still do your part. Send Senators Espada and Monserrate a message now: http://action.citizenactionny.org/t/2524 /campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=2793
Then post this as your status!

Yesterday, the Republicans attempted a coup d’etat in the State Senate. This action, engineered in part by Florida resident and billionaire Tom Golisano, who recently left New York to avoid paying his fair share in taxes, is being framed as reform.

We have to keep pushing hard - we made progress today, but everyone needs to make their voices heard - please take the action above! - Karen Scharff

Citizen Action of New York Join us next Tuesday in Albany to attend the Senate Elections Committee's last meeting of the session, where campaign finance reform will be on the agenda. We'll also be meeting with Senators and Assemblymembers, and hold a press conference. Use the link below to RSVP!

Instead of candidates for office raising a lot of large contributions from wealthy donors, a voluntary system of public financing of elections allows candidates to run for office by collecting many small donations and receiving public funds to run their campaign.

Citizen Action of New York Thanks to everyone who attended our annual leadership conference this weekend in Vernon, NY!

Citizen Action of New York The State Senate has asked for public input on how to fix New York's campaign finance system. We need to tell them to pass public financing of elections this session! Visit http://campaignfinanceideas.nysenate.gov to post your idea and to vote on other people's ideas. If you need help, use the link below to find step by step instructions.
