San Francisco Assessor-Recorder Phil Ting discusses Prop. 13 and what YOU can do make change. UC Berkeley, October 26, 2009.
Daveed Kapoor

Daveed Kapoor prop 13 is detriment to the future of California. Places all the taxation burden on new buyers. We need equal tax for All. Close the loophole for commercial property owners + residential (do not unfairly burden commercial land owners). has got to be a way to gradually raise the taxes on owners in the loophole.

Yvonne M. Steffen

Yvonne M. Steffen I totally agree with Closing the Loophole and having commercial property owners pay their fair share of property taxes. On the other hand, I fear that Lakoff's Majority Rule Initiative would bankrupt too many private property owners. We would be back where we started years ago when Prop 13 was passed by frightened homeowners.

Instead, Prop. 13 was to become California's Folly. I thought then, and am firmly convinced now, that the key elements in the proposition - the taxation formula and the two-thirds legislative requirement - would be responsible for causing a fiscal and social disaster.

The biggest loophole is the 2/3 rule which prevents us from closing all the other loopholes. ”All legislative actions on revenue and budget must be determined by a majority vote.” The California Majority Rule Campaign is on the move. Monday Dr. Lakoff, Assembly Leader Toricco, Phil Ting, Naomi Klein and others discuss...ed the budget cuts at UC Berkeley. WDRC signed up over 200 volunteers for the campaign. Four events are scheduled for November so far. http://www.trivalleydems.com/DemocracyInCalifornia.htm has times and dates PLUS THE FULL ENDORSEMENT LIST. Pass this on – THIS CAMPAIGN MUST GO VIRAL.Read More

The 2009 California budget crisis was one of the worst in the state's history. While no community has gone untouched by the dysfunction in Sacramento, one group will be hit particularly hard by this year's budget disaster: our UC, Cal State and community college students.

The NONworking F-22 fighter costs $365,000+ each; how much would schools love to have that money? 187 to go is $68, 255,000,000 or something...my little calculator can't show me the extension.
