With the Facebook Connect APIs you gain access to:
- Identity: a user’s name, photos, and more.
- Friends: data about a user’s friends.
- Distribution: all of the integration points within Facebook, like stream stories and notifications.
- Integration: profile boxes, profile tabs, and publishers just like apps on Facebook
Use these APIs to enable users to easily share your content and the actions users take on your site with their friends on Facebook. With more data about a user and their friends, you have the power to create a more social and engaging experience on your site.
Facebook Connect is free and available to all developers now. We have released the APIs for websites, desktop applications, and the iPhone. Coming soon: Xbox.
Share
Easily share a URL, an image, and a brief description with just one line of code. Users click Share and your content (along with their comment) is shared on Facebook for their friends to read. Learn more.
Stream stories

Share deeper, richer content (including images, flash elements, embedded links and user-generated content) along with a user’s comments. Users interact directly with your content on Facebook and return to your site to learn more. DonorsChoose (creating a story when users donate) and MeetUp (allowing users to share when they RSVP to an event) are two great examples to check out.
Commenting
Enable users to comment on your content with their unique identities, and bring those conversations back to their friends on Facebook. Check out examples like TechCrunch, Gawker, and USA Today.
Facebook authentication

With a simple Connect button users can register and log-in to your site in just two clicks. Adding Facebook Connect has increased registration by up to 300% for some Facebook Connect Partners.
Personalized experiences

Instantly use data users have already shared with Facebook to create a more targeted, personalized experience. For example, if you know a user is from San Francisco, CA — auto-target your content to that location, like Citysearch does. Or, create a completely customized experience based on a user’s stated interests, like Daily Perfect.
Social filtering
Show users your content through the lens of their friends’ activity. Where you now have “what’s popular” on your site, add “what’s popular with your friends”. See Lollapalooza’s integration for inspiration about ways to show social data to a user in creative ways.
Friend activity

Provide users with a list of recent activity taken on your site by their friends, like your own version of the Facebook News Feed. For example, which of a user’s friends have commented most recently? On which article? It’s like your own version of Facebook’s homepage, but only showing content and actions taken on your site
