Most of the gardeners have harvested at least some produce and some of the gardeners have harvested A LOT of produce. We are still harvesting cooler weather crops such as car...rots, peppers, broccoli, Swiss chard, tomatoes, pumpkins, onions, basil, rosemary, bay leaves, beans and some fall flowers. We were shocked and delighted by your most generous and un-expected gift of $500. WOW! Out of the blue comes $500. Un-believable. Just like Manna. What a great company to think of this idea to get the “local” idea out there. It has been most helpful to us to have the extra funds. We are going to use them to build a garden shed for tool, supplies and seed storage. To date we have been self funded. We most sincerely appreciate your donation. We started the garden to help us get an understanding of what it takes to produce our food, reconnect to the earth, and get a little exercise. It has grown quickly and we have had over 60 participants from age 4 to age 82. We have groups and families that garden together. It builds community. When we started there were only 15 lots developed, now just two years later we have over 30 lots developed. When the garden first appeared it was only church members. As word spread about the new community garden, the rest of the lots were developed by volunteers from the neighborhood. This morning I met with Jim Stokes from the International Rescue Committee and three refugee families of the Karen Ni tribe from Burma. They are Hill people with no understanding of our systems, language or institutions. We are supplying them with a large lot (there are 15 people in these three families) and helping them with transportation and clothing. It has been difficult for them to adjust to items we take as simple like light switches, ovens, toilets etc. Again, let me sincerely thank you for your support.
