New initiative will enable low-income residents to maintain bank checking and savings accounts for the purpose of reducing their dependence on fee-charging check-cashing agencies. Eleven participating financial institutions with branches throughout the City of Newark will enable residents to have Social Security, welfa...re and pay checks directly deposited into these accounts to prevent identity theft and encourage savings, as well as offer limited overdraft fee charges, free monthly money orders, and acceptance of foreign identification.Read More
