In 1999, a group of hit songwriters began designing a record company. Their goal was simple: to turn the world on to the depth and breadth of talent in Nashville`s unique songwriting community and revolutionize the traditional record label / recording artist relationship by turning the deal upside down. So they created the Nashville Underground Record Collective, a place where the finest performing songwriters could record their original versions of the hit songs they`ve penned for other artists, as well as those more personal songs that belong exclusively to their own artist voices. The recordings have been released in a series of compilations that each feature two tracks from each of six songwriters. In reviewing Nashville Underground Sampler Series Vol. IV, Lucas Hendrickson of All the Rage commented, “there's an undeniable power in hearing the songs interpreted by the original authors. These folks know the tunes, the back stories, the emotions from the inside out, with no interpretation needed. Once you put that filter on your listening experience, these hits are remade anew, and you remember again that Nashville is a place for good songs.” This sentiment has been shared by listeners everywhere and it’s this logic that continues to drive Nashville Underground. Label co-founder and President, Lari White says, “We modeled Nashville Underground after Windham Hill Records, an amazing jazz label that single-handedly created a brand for a very unique style of music. People came to know Windham Hill as THE SOURCE for great modern modal jazz, even though the artists’ names might not be familiar. That’s where we hope to take Nashville Underground, to being THE SOURCE for America’s best hit-song writer/artists.” Nashville Underground has also released Chuck Cannon’s critically-acclaimed “God Shaped Hole” and “Love and Money” CDs, and is completing a 22-song studio recording project with the legendary Mac Davis. Going against the tide of the current record industry trend toward the “360 deal,” Nashville Underground continues to revolutionize the traditional relationship between record label and recording artist by increasing the artists’ share in the revenue. White remembers a special moment early in the Nashville Underground journey, “When we gave Pam Rose her first artist royalty check, she looked at it and then looked up at me and Chuck with tears in her eyes. She said, ‘Do you realize that as long as I’ve been a recording artist, this is the first artist royalty check I have ever received?’ That is satisfying. That is a success story.”

Although Billy Dean has sold over 4 million albums, has scored 11 top ten singles, and 5 number 1 songs in the Country music genre, this multi-award winning singer/songwriter, prefers not to be limited to one music genre. His music style is a blend of folk, rock,americana and country.
