While walking on the East Plum Creek Trail one day, a Town employee noticed many of the colorful, hand-painted tiles decorating the Perry Street underpass had been broken by vandals.
She wondered what could be done to replace the tiles, which were painted by area residents during the 2000 Artfest.
Therefore, the Town is... partnering with Josh, Eagle Scout, to sponsor three pottery labs at which residents can paint tiles for Josh to add to the underpass. The labs will be held in the Pottery Studio at the Town Recreation Center, 2301 N. Woodlands Blvd.
All the materials needed will be supplied, including the tiles, which are approximately 8 inches by 8 inches. There is no theme to the artwork on the tiles – those who participate can paint whatever comes to mind.
Josh’s team will install the tiles, completing the project, by the end of January. If more tiles are painted than the 80 needed to replace the broken tiles, the team will expand the area of the underpass that is decorated.
