Montanans like people in the outside world to believe that this is a tough place to live. That our long winters, combined with a nobody-gets-rich-here economy and requisite cowboy-up attitude eventually weed out those who don't really get it. You can't eat the scenery after all.

Last night there was copters and a neighbor called me cause I am closer to the actual fire, she said she could see entire trees going up into flames and called 911. I think someone is not telling the whole truth, it is still burning and there were more than one, just saying. I live where if it got out of control, I might need to pack some stuff and get out.

Kristin Pelser Saunders Does anyone at the Chronicle know why it appears the mountain is on fire over Hyalite Foothills subdivision? I am curious why I see the orange glow and growing.

I'm afraid I don't have details about where on the Interstate or which direction yet, but I believe you can avoid it by heading through Four Corners.
