“Vivien Wood is a fabulous artist. I adore the way she combines her background in pure dance (where she is pure, feminine and strong) with her physical theatre experience (direct and exuberant). As a choreographer I always knew I could rely on Viv's sure musicality from which her innate instincts take flow.”
Mark Baldwin, Artistic Director, Rambert Dance Company
Vivien Wood, who trained at The Royal Ballet, has returned to her birthplace, the North-East of England after a successful career as one of Britain’s leading contemporary dancers. She has danced in Montreal, Sydney, Paris and Hong Kong with The Michael Clark Company and DV8 Physical Theatre, but never before has she danced in her birth town of Gateshead.
Vivien will perform with Bradley Creswick, Northern Sinfonia’s charismatic leader and violinist, to Bach's Violin Sonata no.2 in A minor. Both artists combine outstanding technique with a highly charged emotional artistry.
The Bradley and Vivien duet is supported by Gateshead Council, Arts Council England and Dance City.

Cantaria – A light and sound installation by Amanda Drago and Kit Haigh (Falling Cat) commissioned by Castle Morpeth Borough Council
Cantaria takes the form of a reflection of a stained glass window projected on to the floor. As you walk through the reflection you reveal images of stained glass panels linked by intertwi……ning branches, showing scenes of medieval life that reflect the many uses of The Chantry. Simultaneously Cantaria begins to sing by playing sounds of the Northumbrian pipes. The pipe sounds rise and fall creating a hypnotic soundscape that encourages a physical response. This is broken occasionally by the haunting tone of the original Chantry bell that once rang from the bell tower directly above.
Cantaria responds to movement so please feel free to move and play.
