David Chiu It's a start: "In order to begin simplifying the process, Chiu plans to introduce
legislation that would strike 71 fees from the books. A segment of
those targeted for removal are not used and others only generate small
amounts of money."

Seventy-one business fees are on the verge of elimination from The City’s books as part of a larger effort to remove the complex process of starting a small business in San Francisco. There are more than 60,000 small businesses in The City, employing the majority of workers in San F

When San Francisco's Board of Supervisors President David Chiu cuts off members of the public who have exceeded their time limit during public comment, he often apologizes, then explains why the rules exist.

Dear Supervisor Chiu,
I have called your office, 311, and anyone I can think of to help with the current transportation situation in District 3. I have not received much help or answers, and so I continue to reach out. Currently in North Beach, SFMTA has cut a vital transportation line - the 10 Townsend bus line that went from North Beach to Potrero Hill. Over the past few days I have had extreme difficulty making it from my home in North Beach to my workplace in Potrero Hill. I work daily on preventing violence against women and children, and know that this work is very vital to the city we live in.

Just a day ago my regular commute, which normally takes 30 minutes, took 90 minutes as I scrambled to catch two different buses, and found myself left in the cold waiting over 30 minutes during the morning rush hour for a bus. Today, the 8X, which is supposed to go from North Beach to Potrero never showed up, again leaving me in the cold and struggling to find a way to my job.

I understand that this is not your fault, but as our Supervisor, it is of vital importance that you let SFMTA know that the number 10 was a vital artery for those in the North Beach area and needs to be returned. While Levi's has its own line to ensure that their employees get to work, and those who work in the financial district can take easy transportation to where they work, those of us who are working to contribute vital services through non-profits and small businesses in the Potrero area are not able to make it to our jobs. Tomorrow I have no idea what I'll do. I can't afford to take a taxi to work every day, and I struggle with walking due to an injured foot.

People in North Beach need you to fight for our transportation to be returned to us, and I hope that you will.

Thank you,
Jeanine Hays

David Chiu is working on the issue of vacant and abandoned buildings. Let us know if you have any more ideas to address this issue.

www.sfexaminer.com
The City has begun cracking down on unsightly eyesores by forcing the owners of hundreds of vacant or abandoned buildings to pay a $765 fee. Nearly 200 notices were mailed to owners of vacant buildings earlier this month by the Department of Building and Inspection stati

Combination of uses and solutions (all of above) would be best. One more idea is to exempt annual fee in exchange for allowing small start-up businesses, non-profits, musicians, and artists to use spaces for limited duration to try things out.

I don't think many folks fully understand the financial ramifications to the city as a whole when an under count takes place. Fight the good fight.

By day - and even, let's face it, during the nights and weekends - David Chiu is busy working the levers of the city government as president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. So what does a municipal politician do to relax after a week packed with budget talks and committee meetings?

My hat is off to you. I tried "playing" the violin as a kid. It was very, very hard and I was very, very bad. To think that my parents had to listen to me practice--the mind boggles.
