Old-fashioned lanterns and carved pumpkins lead you through pathways of graves and ghouls.
At this family event, you will see features, such as:
A Halloween parade (6:30 p.m.)
Games
A haunted ...barn
A flashlight scavenger hunt
A haunted horse-drawn hayride
Tractor pulled wagon rides for little trick-or-treaters
A marshmallow roast and campfire
A Halloween dancing stage
In addition to regular concessions, the Farmstead will have grilled bratwursts, cider, caramel apples and glow-in-the-dark necklaces.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Farmstead concession stand and also at the door the night of the event. Tickets are non-refundable and good for either night of the event. There is no rain date.

At P...umpkin Hollow, a horse-drawn wagon ride will take you to and from the patch where each person gets to take home a pumpkin of his or her choice. Once there, you can:
Get lost in a corn/hay maze
Fish for pumpkins
Climb a hay pyramid
Play in a "corn" box
Shoot pumpkin hoops and
Participate in the creepy, crawly snake jump.
This is the farmstead's primary fundraiser.

Enjoy apple cider, caramel apples and good music at the Farmstead's Apple Fest from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 19, 2009.
Admission is free; however, donations are appreciated.
Visitors will enjoy a day of old-fashioned fun with crafts, games and more. Children and adults can enjoy kettle corn, apple sauce and apple cider.

Does your son or daughter want to be a police officer? A firefighter?
If so, let them experience first-hand what it’s like to sit inside a police cruiser or a fire truck at the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead’s annual Safety Day.
Safety Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29 at the Farmstead, 138th a...nd Switzer. Admission is free.
The Overland Park fire and police departments, the Kansas Highway Patrol, D.A.R.E., and other organizations will be on hand to teach children about safety and equipment.
In addition to fire trucks and other safety vehicles, there also will be car seat safety checks by State Farm Insurance from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. These checks are free. No appointment needed.

Join the Stampede!
The Mayor's OP 5K Farmstead Stampede will be Aug. 15, 2009 at the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead, 138th and Switzer.
It is hosted by the City of Overland Park and the Friends of the Farmstead.
The competitive 5K race will use CHIP timing and begins at 7:30 a.m. A non-competitive 5K run/walk will follo...w. Strollers are welcome, but pets are not.
Pre-registration encouraged but not required.

Lace up those tennies because it's time for the eighth annual Georgia's Chicken Fun Run for children at the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead.

Check in: 7:30 a.m.
The chicken dance will be held at 8:30 a.m. followed by the first race. The awards ceremony will be at 9:45 a.m.
Girls ...and boys will run/walk separately in each division, except babies and adults:
Ages 2 and under "Baby Walk"
Ages 3-4 run/walk for 1/8 mile
Ages 5-6 run/walk 1/4 mile
Ages 7-8 run/walk 1/4 mile
Ages 9-10 run/walk 1/4 mile
Ages 11-12 run/walk 1/4 mile
Adults (13 and older) run/walk 1/4 mile
The cost is $15 per child. Proceeds benefit the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead.
All participants will receive a gift bag and a medal. Trophies will go to the winners of each division.

$10 registration fee per person
A festival will follow the tournament from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will have games, a raffle with prizes and more.
The tournament is... limited to 60 teams each session (early or late).
Teams will fish with two old-fashioned cane poles and a bucket of worms provided by the Farmstead.
Each team will receive two gift bags, including a child-size tackle box and other prizes.
Trophies will be awarded to winners in each category.
Breakfast, provided by Anderson Erickson Dairy and
Mimi’s Café, will be available for all participants.
A coloring table will be set up for younger children who do not wish to participate.

As many as 2,000 people attend FarmFest from across the Kansas City area.
Tickets are $15 if purchased in advance; $20 the day of the event.
Children 2 and under are free. Discounts are available for groups of 15 or more.
Tickets can be purchased at the Farmstead, 138th and Switzer; the Jewish Community Center, 5801 W. 115th St., or through Operation Breakthrough. Proceeds benefit these three organizations.
The Farmstead will be closed to anyone without a ticket during the event.

Tails will be waggin’ at the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead Saturday, May 2.
The Farmstead is teaming up with Animal Haven for “Pet Pals,” a day of free fun in the sun with activities for the whole family.
Activities, including dog safety, Frisbee dogs, police dogs and agility and herding demonstrations, start at 11 ...a.m. and end at 3 p.m. at the Farmstead, 138th and Switzer.
Participants are encouraged to bring towels and paper towels to donate to Animal Haven.
Please leave your pets at home; however, if you’re looking to adopt a pet, this is your chance. Animal Haven will have animals for adoption.
In addition, several local animal businesses and organizations will have booths set up throughout the Farmstead.
