The historic Egyptian Theatre will be showing the movie "O Brother, Where Art Thou" sponsored by the NIU Honors Program on Tuesday, November 17th at 7:00pm.

“O Brother, Where Art Thou” is a 2000 adventure film directed by Joel and Ethan Coen and starring George Clooney, John Turturro, Tim Blake Nelson, John Goodman, H...olly Hunter, and Charles Durning. Set in 1937 Mississippi during the Great Depression, the film's story is loosely based on Homer’s Odyssey. Following the movie there will be a Q &A led by Professors Dr. Dee Anna Phares and Dr. Timothy Ryan from NIU.

Dr. Dee Anna Phares is a visiting assistant professor in English at NIU who regularly teaches Homer in classics and humanities classes and who also teaches film courses (she has actually taught this film several times). She is associate editor of the new Royal Shakespeare Company's "Complete Works of Shakespeare" and is working on a study of the bed in Renaissance drama.

Dr. Timothy Ryan is a professor in the Department of English. He grew up in the city of Bath, England, and received his bachelor's degree in American Studies at the University of Reading. He earned his master's degree and Ph.D. from the University of Nevada, Reno, where he later served as a lecturer in writing and humanities. He has also taught literature and film courses in the American Studies program at King's College in London.

“O Brother, Where Art Thou?” will show at 7:00pm on Tuesday, November 17th with doors opening at 6:30pm. Admission is free to NIU students with a valid NIU One Card, non NIU students are simply $5 for adults and $4 for seniors. The Egyptian Theatre is operated by the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization Preservation of Egyptian Theatre, Inc. and located at 135 North 2nd Street, Downtown DeKalb, IL.
