Richard

Richard I think the magazine is very good. It could use more articles about living with diabetes and a bit less receipes. I wonder why a diabetic magazine dooesn't list the sugar content in their recommended products? That's most important for a diabetic. Am I missing something?

Sarah Boon Reinstra I am having such a hard time finding easy and quick diabetic recipes. I am a working mother of a family of 4. My youngest (who is 2) and hubby are very picky eaters. I work 40 plus hours a week on nights and on 12 hour shifts. Any great recipe ideas??

Danika

Danika It's incredible how you can substitute ingredients to make it diabetic friendly....olive oil instead of butter for example. We do eat out and there's plenty to choose from but you have to be proactive. I've decided to forgo desserts as I find it defeats the purpose of healthy living.....swap sugar for fruits! try a n...ew fruit weekly...there are so many fruits out there that we don't even know about...the Asians have many interesting fruits...

how much do you end up paying for the food. and how do they bill you? I need to loose about 50lbs, they found out I was diabetic when I was trying for a baby. I still have about 3 months before they clear me so I would love to loose before I get pregnant

Dolores Charles Hastings

Dolores Charles Hastings I have a huge question. My 11 year was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in June, and at first we didn't have trouble getting her numbers down to the 100's, and her A1C went from 14% to 8%. But at the check up, we found out we were doing the insulin injections incorrectly. We were giving them before AND after meals to... correct. So we changed to the correct way, and now we are having LOTS of trouble getting her numbers down she is typically 250 to over 400. We have been giving her the corrections for her scale, and watching her diet, we have lots of tools for that...but we just cannot get it down. Do you have any suggestions for us. Our next check up is not until Feb, and we have to get this under control soon. Thank you

Material that I have read says your sugars will be high the first thing in the morning. It rises during the night. Perhaps someone here could explain it. Your readings will be higher right after you eat. I've been told it will settle down after about 2 hours you eat.

Here's what has been studied in large clinical studies to help control blood glucose levels in people with type 2: daily exercise, using blood-glucose lowering medications, losing 5-7% of body weight (for people with elevated blood sugars yet not yet at "diabetes" range of over 126 mg/dl fasting bg).

Taking our blood in public is somewhat like a mother nursing a baby in public. There are some things that should be private. There is usually always a restroom or someplace that is handy. Good luck with the shots. With the new needles they have now the shots are very painless. Time for a new needle when it hurts. Happy holidays

It's great to read the answers here to see that those of us living with diabetes share many of the same concerns and issues--and most of all, that we do what we can to make sure we check those blood sugars, take those shots as needed, treat lows, etc. I'm sure none of us wanted to be on "team diabetes," but it somehow helps to know we're not alone!
