In conjunction with an exhibition of new work at Dieu Donné, artist E.V. Day will discuss her work and artistic process with poet and critic Bill Corbett on NOVEMBER 3RD, 7pm at Dieu Donné, 315 West 36th Street.
The discussion is free and open to the public. RSVP with Kat Savage at ksavage@dieudonne.org.
Located in th...e state-of-the-art paper studio at Dieu Donné, Working Paper will provide a focused dialogue about Day’s studio experience and opportunities realized while exploring a new working process. By situating this dialogue in the studio where the work was made, the audience will experience first-hand the creation of unique and innovative works in handmade paper.
The conversation will be led by Bill Corbett whose background as a poet and art critic have given him the opportunity to interview Paul Auster, Robert Creeley, Dave Hickey, Jhumpa Lahiri and Anne Waldman among many other writers and artists.
E. V. Day is a New York-based installation artist and sculptor whose work explores themes of feminism and sexuality, while reflecting upon popular culture. Day received her MFA in Sculpture from Yale University in 1995, and began her “Exploding Couture” series in 1999, the first installment of which, “Bombshell,” was included in the 2000 Whitney Biennial. Beginning November 5th, 2009, the New York City Opera will celebrate the opening of the 2009-10 season with a series of dynamic sculptures made from a selection of vintage City Opera costumes, suspended overhead in exuberant simulated motion.
Day’s work in paper, created during a Dieu Donné Lab Grant residency, employ an innovative technique of embossing pigmented fishnets into thick casting paper pulp. These works—on display from October 15 through November 25—are realizations of Day’s sculptural practice in a two dimensional form.Read More
