Synopsis
Husband and wife, Claire Rutter and Stephen Gadd are internationally renowned British opera singers. While Claire was singing the title role in Aida at English National Opera in 2007, Stephen sang Macbeth at Glyndebourne, sometimes on the same night!
Besides these and many other leading roles with top British companies, Claire is a favourite with the major American opera houses, and will make her Sydney Opera House debut as Aida in 2009. Stephen’s notable international engagements include the Salzburg Festival and the Paris Opera.
Rutter & Gadd: Family Album is their first joint classical vocal album, featuring a collection of well-known songs and arias, celebrating the theme of ‘family’. Also on the album is their début composition, “Mother & Son”. Their fresh approach will appeal to both connoisseurs of opera and newcomers to classical music.
Family relationships are explored through beautiful music on this heart-warming album, which includes vocal contributions from other members of their musical family. Their 11-year-old son George is a member of the world-class Winchester Cathedral Choir and a seasoned performer in his own right.
Tracks featured on the album include their own arrangements of “O, for the Wings of a Dove”, Brahms’s “Lullaby”, and “Danny Boy” (sung by Claire with both her mother and daughter), plus Puccini’s charming ‘O mio Babbino Caro’, and the virtuoso soprano aria “La Mamma Morta”.
