Current projected opening day is Friday, Nov. 20. Overall the mountain is shaping up nicely. Some areas are looking great, while others are still mighty rocky. We do have more snow management to do (and more needs to stick up high) before the slopes can reasonably sustain nightly grooming and prolonged skier and rider traffic. There really is not one "magic number" for snow depth because of factors like snow density, moisture, wind distribution, etc. It looks like one rain event, and one extended snow cycle is in the cards before we get to next weekend.Read More

The 14th Annual PACIFIC CREST Weekend Sports Festival will be held June 25-27, 2010 in Sunriver, Oregon.

Each year, during the last weekend in June, athletes, joined by their family and friends, converge on Central Oregon to take part in the Pacific Crest Sports Festival. Last year, we saw a record number of athlete...s and we are looking to repeat this in 2010! The Pacific Crest is known as the jewel of multi-sport events in the Northwest and has become a destination race for athletes from across the nation as well as internationally.

The Pacific Crest Sports Festival includes the Long Course Triathlon, Endurance Duathlon, Marathon & Half Marathon, Olympic Distance Triathlon & Duathlon, 5K & 10K Run/Walks, and a Kid's Splash Pedal-n-Dash Triathlon & 1-mile and 1/2-mile Dash. The Long Course Triathlon is the TRI NorthWest Long Course Tri Championship. The Marathon is a Boston Qualifier.

The Pacific Crest Weekend begins on Friday morning, and the Celebration continues through Sunday. The weekend will include a Health & Fitness Expo, great food, beer garden, live entertainment, fun, camaraderie, and to top it off, some of the best competitive racing you will find in the country.

Pacific Crest is being dubbed as one of THE PREMIER events of it's kind in the entire nation. The triathlons are both expected to again sell out and it is advised that you register AND make your travel plans early.

The Cascade Winds season includes a variety of band standards, show tunes, orchestra transcriptions and marches that demonstrate the excitement and richness of great wind band literature. The December program opens with Jack Stamp's very energetic "Gavorkna Fanfare". Gordon Jacob's epic transcription of "William Byrd S...uite" will follow. This band standard is based upon compositions Byrd penned nearly 400 years ago, but they remain fresh and interesting to this day. "Merry Music for Wind Band" will provide a complete change of pace. This effervescing frolic features alto sax and baritone horn solos of a burlesque nature. The first half of the concert will conclude with selections from "West Side Story", Leonard Bernstein's landmark musical. Highlights include "Maria", "I Feel Pretty", "Tonight", and "America".

Bernstein's "Overture To Candide" will open the second half of the concert. Then Malcolm Arnold's "Four Scottish Dances" will transport the concert audience to the misty land of the highlands. This classic work features beautiful melodies, especially for oboe and harp. Castanets, tambourines, maracas and other percussive fireworks will next highlight the Spanish "El Relicario". The concert will conclude with Ron Nelson's lively "Rocky Point Holiday", and features virtuosic playing by the entire band.
