Armada Music Holiday Sale - Markus Schulz Compilations

As well as the 20 Tunes Collected bundle, Armada Music are offering 20 of their best-selling digital compilations in 2009 for a special reduced price on iTunes throughout December and January.

When reflecting on Markus Schulz's year in 2009, many of the highlights will come from his two crtically-acclaimed mix compilations released within the past 12 months - Toronto '09 and World Tour: Best of 2009.

Toronto '09 was the fourth chapter of Markus' city compilation series. The ethos of this series has remained integral since its conception - and that is the process of Markus working closely with every producer that contributes a track towards the project, with the objective of establishing a sound which encompasses the mood of the CD, and the chosen city.

Disc 1 is best described as a journey that builds over time, beginning with dark and slowly layered sounds that can only be discovered and appreciated with more than one listen. Disc 2 moves towards more frequent big room moments, with his trademark basslines and euphoric melodies.

Now in it's third year, Markus Schulz's World Tour series is one of the biggest success stories in dance music throughout recent times, touching the hearts of many across all five continents.

Every World Tour recording is eagerly anticipated by the chosen city's conglomerate of fans, wishing to claim the accolade of being the loudest and most passionate audience. Consequently, these gigs are among the most discussed around the world, not just by the clubbers who attend the events in person, but also by the listeners through online and radio mediums.

Despite differing languages and cultures, his music and passion has united the world. In an attempt to describe his affection for the fans, and the cities which he is proud to play, he has created a new dimension to his performances, unifying the live experience with radio.

Saturday December 5th - Armin vs. Markus: The Best of Both Worlds

In the past twelve months, Markus Schulz's last two singles have been utilised as the event theme for some of the biggest dance events in the world, such as Transmission in Prague and Radio 538's Evolution: Let There Be Light in Assen. To close out 2009, we celebrate the achievements of both, by offering a new package of remixes which will keep both tracks rocking dancefloors worldwide well into 2010.

Release Label: Coldharbour Recordings
Release Code: CLHR083
Release Date: November 23rd 2009

Do You Dream (Ferry Corsten Remix)
Do You Dream (Re-Ward Remix)
Do You Dream (Grube & Hovsepian Remix)
The New World (Giuseppe Ottaviani Remix)

Despite operating in a production capacity under his Dakota alias for much of 2009, many will regard Markus Schulz’s highlight of the year as the release of the first single from his upcoming artist album, and the followup to 2008 Transmission theme “The New World”. The track in question of course, is “Do You Dream”.

As another Coldharbour Day celebration passed during the summer, Do You Dream caused havoc across the European festival circuit, as well as on the dancefloors of clubs from The Guvernment in Toronto, to the world famous Amnesia in Ibiza. The release saw Markus produce two versions, with the Uplifting Mix proving to be his weapon of choice, and engineered some huge, emotionally-charged reactions from those in attendance at the World Tour recordings in Prague and St. Petersburg.

The momentum in popularity and appeal of the track spread even further in September, as Dutch station Radio 538 awarded it the title of “Dance Smash”, and also bestowed it with the honour of becoming the event theme at the Evolution: Let There Be Light extravaganza in Assen, which Markus headlined along with Tiesto.

However, keen to offer the fans additional interpretations of the track other than himself, Markus set out on the task of recruiting three new remixes for this special package at the end of the year. And he started by approaching one of the top names in trance, Dutch maestro Ferry Corsten.

Earlier this year, Ferry approached Markus with the idea of remixing his own track, “Brain Box”, for the Twice in a Blue Moon Remixed album. And in the spirit of friendship, Markus asked Ferry to return the compliment by remixing Do You Dream, and the results were exactly what you would expect – power, energy and emotion, and perfect for those peaktime moments in a set.

For the second remix, we stay in The Netherlands but turn the spotlight to an upcoming name, who has built quite a reputation due to his unique style in recent years. Hailing from a family steeped in musical heritage, Wardt van der Harst is earmarked as one of the future starts in trance, particularly his solo Re-Ward moniker. He delivers a wonderful effort here, taking the melody and adding his haunting and brooding sounds which dives the track a new dimension. The remix featured on Markus’ World Tour appearance at Godskitchen’s Birthday celebrations in Birmimgham, which aired in October.

Last but not least, the east and west coasts of the United States are united, as Miami’s Tim Grube and Los Angeles native Mike Hovsepian combine efforts for their biggest remix to date. Building on their debut as a group when they remixed Michael Calderone & Christopher Reddick’s Toronto ’09 pleaser “Sound of Flight”, they produce a tempo-driven bassline with a break sure to get hands in the air.

However, the package does not end there. As an additional bonus, we turn the clocks back one year to relieve one of the finest moments in Markus’ career, where he created the event theme for the wonderful Transmission event in Prague. Today, The New World continues to be one of the most requested tracks in Markus’ livesets, and this trend is set to continue as Italy’s Giuseppe Ottaviani offers a high-octane and uplifting masterpiece that only he is capable of.

With the 2009 edition of Transmission recently passed, an event which Markus headlined this year again, it is only appropriate that The New World finds itself accompanied with this fine selection of remixes of his 2009 signature, Do You Dream, which guarantees to be prevalent on dancefloors throughout the holiday season and well into 2010.

Do You Dream / The New World Remixes is available to purchase exclusively on Beatport from Monday November 23rd, and all other digital download portals from Monday December 7th.

Steve Aries feat. Lavoie - Dressed in White (Markus Schulz Coldharbour Remix)

One of Markus Schulz’s personal highlights in 2009 was to perform at the annual Bal en Blanc extravaganza in the Canadian city of Montreal. Not only because of his special connection with the Montreal natives, but also because he was given the opportunity to remix the 2009 Bal en Blanc theme. The track has been one of the most requested tracks in Markus’ live set playlists this year, and deservedly earned a spot in the World Tour Best of 2009 CD.

Dressed in White is now available in its entirety through the World Tour Full Versions bundle.

Dakota - “Mr. Cappuccino”

With each track from the Thoughts Become Things album telling its own unique story, it was inevitable Markus would concentrate on a track reminiscent of his experiences in the magical island of Ibiza. Dedicated to those morning after-reflections from the memorable parties at Amnesia over the years, Mr. Cappuccino is a feast of cool vibes with deep grooves throughout.

The original is complimented with an outstanding moody and twisted remix by Italian Gai Barone, one of the breakout starts of 2009, and also a delicately groovy vibe served up by Paul Keeley, both remixes recently featured on the Global DJ Broadcast

Mr. Cappuccino will be released on Monday November 16th.

Coldharbour Artist Interviews: Barnes & Heatcliff

Beginning this month, Markus will present a series of interviews with artists who proudly take their place on the Coldharbour Recordings roster. Every interview will give an inside take on the artists’ achievements to date, their relationship with Markus, and plans for the future.

In the first edition, Austrian duo Barnes & Heatcliff are under the spotlight, where they discuss their remix of Johnny the Fox, as well as their Lentos project.
