Announcing the 1st Annual Summer Fun Display Contest Winners
M Creations takes 1st Place
The 1st Annual Downtown "Summer Fun" Display Contest kicked off Thursday, July 23rd and wrapped up on July 30th. Forty-one Downtown businesses got in the spirit of summer and showed the community just how much fun summertime in Downtown Chico can be by creating summer-themed window or interior displays. The only requirement was that three "Downtown Chico" beach balls had to be used in the display.
This interactive contest engaged the public, who cast more than 1,000 votes online to determine which Downtown business had the most "Summer Fun". Winners were chosen in two categories: "Peoples' Choice" and "Local Celebrity Judges' Picks".
The Peoples' Choice winners were determined by the public voting online. People were asked to visit the participating downtown businesses and the cast their top three choices. People's Choice winners will receive infamy, notoriety, and an award plaque. Plus the top three businesses will each receive a special DCBA advertising package worth up to $1,000. The winners of the 2009 "Summer Fun" Display contest are:

- 1st Place: M Creations (513 Main Street)
- 2nd Place: Three Sixty Ecotique (511 Main Street)
- 3rd Place: Woodstock's Pizza (166 E. 2nd Street)
Celebrity Judges at the Thursday Night Market
Local celebrities judged the contestants during the Thursday Night Market on July 30th. Judges were (from right to left) Coyote McGhee (KALF 95.7), Rob Blair (Wake Up News), Tom Nickell (Chico City Councilman), and Alan Chamberlain (DCBA Board President). The judges were impressed by the "Outside the Box" creativity of several businesses and wanted to acknowledge them for their outstanding effort.
