They call me Downtown Scotty Brown. Because I lived in Downtown Chicago before I moved to L.A. I grew up in Addison, IL, a suburb of Chicago, and started doing real estate in 1978 with my family. Anyways, I moved to Chicago in 1980 to pursue a career in entertainment since it had been a dream of mine since childhood. I wasn’t exactly sure of what I wanted to do in the entertainment business, but I knew that I loved nightlife and rock n’ roll! So the first thing I did was promote concerts and eventually opened up my own nightclub, which was called Avalon Nite Club in 1986. I was then asked to sing at the Limelight Night Club in Chicago, which basically launched my singing career. I created the Downtown Scotty Brown band and we played every week for 10 years at various locations in Chicago. I ran a jam night and artists like Billy Corgan from the Smashing Pumpkins, Buddy Miles, and other great rock & roll cats would sit in. I had a lot of friends in Chicago and still do today. After visiting L.A., I realized that there was a lot more opportunity there and, you know, the weather didn’t hurt! So I sold the Avalon Nite Club and moved out here to further my career in entertainment, since I had gotten off to a pretty good start in Chicago. When I got here I started a promotion and marketing business. After a little while I became a personal manager for Scott Weiland, the lead singer of the Stone Temple Pilots who sold over 30 million records. I worked with Scott for four years and then decided to take a break from the rock life so I went into the movie business, which I thought would be an easier lifestyle. I started working as a location scout and manager, and worked on more than 20 television shows and films like Nip/Tuck, Judging Amy, I Am Sam with Sean Penn and Michelle Pfeiffer, Rat Race with Cuba Gooding Jr. and Whoopi Goldberg, and Deuce’s Wild with Matt Dillon and Stephen Dorff, which I also had a little cameo in. Doing this gave me an extensive knowledge of the L.A. area, the people, and neighborhoods, which would later help me with my real estate career.I'm also a certified chemical dependency counselor. I really enjoyed helping others with their addiction problems as a result of my own personal experiences and challenges; you gotta give it away to keep it. When I moved to L.A. I counseled a lot of people in the entertainment community and was on the panel for MusiCares. Living the fast paced life in the entertainment industry was fun, but I didn’t enjoy working the long hours of the movie business, Since I knew the L.A. area so well, I decided that I should go back into real estate and Malibu was my favorite location. I was able to utilize my clientele list from the entertainment business and my background in promotion, marketing, and sales really helped me to excel and become a top producer. Recently, I was chosen to be one of the main real estate agents on Bravo TV's "Million Dollar Listing"
