Ecojustice Esso/Exxon's not-so-humble beginnings: "Each day, Humble supplies enough energy to melt 7 million tonnes of glacier!"

Exxon, along with the rest of the oil industry, does their best to put a greenwash on their environmentally-destructive sector, all the while undermining the scientific consensus on climate change.

Thanks for setting the record straight. Do you have any info about which oil companies are most / least invested in the oil sands? It seems with all the talk that we "need" to develop the oil sands to save the economy, only a boycott of the worst offenders (to reduce its profitability) will be heard.

That is what the ice looks like while melting... This is probably from April or May of this year, near Iqaluit. The black stuff is layered inside the ice and builds up over the winter. As it melts the ice turns dark brown / black. Some of it is dust from the early winter.. but the stuff must come from somewhere else in mid winter when the black... See More stuff builds up in the higher layers as this entire part of the world is underneath snow at that time.

You can clearly see black dust in the ice even in mid winter if there is a slight melt.

This ice is probably still several feet thick, but nevertheless blackened from dust that is unlikely to all be from the surrounding area. Particularly since the more melting, the more black it is from the dust inside rather than on the surface. You can see that the thicker ice in the middle of the bay is whiter.
