Public Engagement and the Digital Landscape | Friday5 (+1)
This week, Edelman hosted a worldwide “Jam” on Yammer to discuss topics
around public engagement. Many of these conversations touched on the
overlap between public engagement and the digital landscape. In case
you missed them, here are a few of the many posts worth... reading from
Edelman colleagues around the world. There were so many great comments
that it was impossible to keep it to five—so this week comes with a
bonus.

1. Robert Phillips, London

"…Influence is now less stable than ever before. While a newspaper
article may hold some real sway, it can be supplanted by an important
blogger, who themselves may be usurped by a sudden rush of tweets. We
need to see influence in terms of ripples, waves and tsunamis - and we
won't always know where they come from (as we did in the past).”

2. Thiane Loureiro, São Paulo

“People have changed. Behaviors changed. Internet changed how we
communicate and relate to each other. It is a new scenario for brands
and corporations. But we are not only talking about online audiences
anymore. The environment is different in all levels, with all
stakeholders, who need engagement and relationship as part of trust.”

3. Veronica Marshall, Chicago

“In the age of blogs, Facebook, Twitter and now Yammer, I feel we talk
more about online engagement and not offline engagement and in doing so
we miss millions of folks who are eager to be engaged but are not at
places like Facebook, Twitter, Blogger Gatherings, etc. It is great
that PE will allow us in some ways to go back to some of the
on-the-ground tactics we used to use to engage audiences, as well as
incorporate the new tools at our disposal.”

4. Shannon Huggins, Portland

“I think the online conversation audit will help…by identifying
precisely where conversations are happening and who best to engage
with. [Organizations] can start interacting there, and after they get
their feet wet they'll likely be more receptive to a more proactive
approach.”

5. John Kerr, Singapore

“Why APAC Digital Brand Index is useful for all our global colleagues
http://tinyurl.com/ygx48gb. All detail here http://tinyurl.com/yjs9tmc.”

6. Paul Lesinski, Silicon Valley

“People are already talking about your company on social media like
Twitter, Facebook and in blogs. You can either join the conversation or
it will continue on without you.”
