Investment in their home countries by migrants from Africa is contributing to economic growth on the continent. This development has caught the attention of African governments, development agencies and the world’s largest cash-transfer company, which are working to facilitate such investment.

@ Kevorkian:Thank you. We as Cypriots want to unify our country. We have 2 separete communities as I have already said. Some people from both of those communities however, do not approve this for their own interest. It is quite complicated as it involves economic and political factors. Money is the usual problem, since there are the individuals who... Read More only care about big profits. If there is a solution for example, people in southern coastal areas will be affected, as the beaches on the North are said to be much more beautiful than those of the South. Industries, such as the tourist industry, will therefore experience losses if tourists decide to visit the North more often. This was just a small example. There are many more reasons for some people's denial for a solution.

@Sujata: We lived in the past peacefully, as neighbours, friends, family. We knew each other's language pretty well and we could perfectly communicate. Today, since propaganda is flourishing together with nationalism, it is quite hard to achieve peace. But we still keep on trying. Feelings of such nationalism were born a few years before WWII when Cyprus was a British colony. Britain had promised a "solution" to both sides. The "divide and rule" policy was used. The British approached the greek-speakers' big proportion of nationalists and offered them a union with their "motherland" Greece if they offered assistance to the War. Same thing was done with the turkish-speakers. In the end, no one got what they wanted, 2 ethnic groups were formed who wanted unification with either Turkey or Greece (TMK and EOKA), a war broke out in the island in a desperate movement for the Cypriots to have their freedom from the British, the war ends (1955-1959), Cyprus becomes independent in 1960 and problems start to arise shortly after. Again, it is difficult to provide much info on that as it is heavily biased. More or less, this is what happened: Greece, Britain and Turkey guaranteed Cyprus independence and would interfere in the case of a civil war which took place in the following years. Greek-speaking ethnic group EOKA BETA, or EOKA "The Second" (this group has nothing to do with original EOKA members, since EOKA fought for freedom only) together with others overthrew the President (Archbishop Makarios) and the killing started. Several people were killed from both sides (greek and turkish speakers) and Turkey interfered with the excuse that it had to protect the turkish speakers. Now, 35 years after the invasion, the island is still split in 2. This is why it is so difficult to bring peace amongst the locals. They lost their homes, their friends, their loved ones in war. Even we, as teenagers, their descendants know what they have been through and what they lost. This is what keeps us going, seeking a solution.

I'm sorry for writing all this, but it is the only way to explain the reason for experiencing such difficulties even today...
