
Elkhorn Slough Foundation Nudibranchs, commonly known as sea slugs, are breeding and laying eggs here in the Slough. You can see their eggs at Kirby Park. The eggs look like white strips of ribbon. Nudibranchs are hermaphrodites, meaning they have the reproductive organs of both sexes.

Dr. Jane Lubchenco, Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and NOAA Administrator, spent a sunny Friday afternoon here at Elkhorn Slough. Lubchenco, a marine ecologist and environmental scientist, toured the Slough with Reserve Manager Becky Suarez, ESF Director Mark Silberstein, and several Slough researchers. Elkhorn Slough Foundation The ESF stewardship crew is looking for volunteers this Sat (17th) to help with an erosion restoration project. It's a perfect way to spend a morning with friends and family. We'll meet at the Elkhorn Slough Reserve at 9am. Everyone ages 10 and up is welcome to help. No, we've never spotted a great white in the slough, although they have been seen at nearby Marina Beach. However, there have been instances of dolphins and once, about 20 years ago, a gray whale made it up to Kirby Park.

Elkhorn Slough Foundation Last Saturday more than 25 children & their families joined ESF for a special Circle of Health event at an organic farm in Watsonville. ESF holds a conservation easement on the property. Families saw first-hand where their food came from and how their food choices impact the environment and their bodies.
