I'm just a newby to Emily's List. So I don't know if this group advocates any support for ALS research or have voted in favor of the registry -- but with our military at risk to this disease and my husband and his family among the rare 5 percent who inherit this disease -- Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is heavy on our ...shoulders and always in our thoughts. More and more people list friends and loved ones who have been taken by this disease that has NO CURE, NO TREATMENT and very little motivation to fund research. Yet, if a cure or treatment is found for ALS, then it will help find a cure for Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, Muscular Dystrophy, and other neuromuscular diseases.

The strange part about ALS -- it strikes healthy people, active, athletic men and women and yes even children, from every walk of life in every location around the world.Read More

I would suggest that instead of: " . . . it's up to the President and the Congress to make certain that women do not lose their benefits or rights as a result of health care reform," that a more visionary position might be: health care reform presents a landmark opportunity for the President and the Congress to not only maintain women's benefits and rights, but also to expand women's health benefits as well as their rights.

Women and children are the worlds poorest peoople. That is why health reform is so important. Women who work are the poorest workers. Health insurance for them is out of the question. In the Scandinavian countries women have a larger represntation in government. These countries have a good health care system, maternity leave, free education through to university, and they have a self sufficient clean energy system. It does help to have women in positions of pwer.
