by Bill Becker. The debate about climate change isn’t just about polar bears and energy prices. It’s about whether a free people will be a responsible people, a capitalist economy will be a caring economy and a democracy will protect the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for every...

Yes, and here is the GDRs Framework proposal for doing just that. How to seriously and rapidly reduce global carbon emissions while helping the developing nations to leapfrog over fossil fuels directly into a clean and green sustainable economy so they can develop their countries withOUT making climate change worse -- The Greenhouse Development Rights Framework:

The Environmentalist New post on the "Too Big to Fail" Fallout on Capitol Hill:

business.the-environmentalist.org
Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA) intends to introduce an amendment to the proposed House Financial Services Committee "Too Big to Fail" bill that will require large banks to fund their own insurance against failure.
The Environmentalist

The Environmentalist A comprehensive report from Jim Hansen:

politics.the-environmentalist.org
by Dr. James Hansen. Global warming IS a time bomb. There may still be time to defuse it, but that requires policy-makers to take the actions that are needed, not the ineffectual actions they are discussing.

The Environmentalist A wonderful recollection by the great playwright and author, Sherman Yellen:

history.the-environmentalist.org
By Sherman Yellen. Growing up in the Depression years it was not odd for a boy to believe that a simple Thanksgiving meal was comprised of delicious food. Cooking was about basic nutrition, not gourmandizing.

by Bill Becker. "In America, we are recalibrating our sense of what it means to be a citizen, not just through voting or volunteering, but also through what we buy…We are seeing the rise of the citizen consumer – and the beginnings of a responsibility revolution."

by Bill Becker. The evidence is irrefutable: Climate change poses enormous risks to economic stability, public health, ecosystem services, and national security, as well as to the environment.
The Environmentalist

by Bill Becker. There’s a familiar dance being performed on the world stage. It’s called the Climate Shuffle. The music is the increasing pace of greenhouse gas emissions as the scientific evidence on which policy makers have depended significantly underestimated the speed of climate change.

Lots of talk, lots of photo opps, but mangrove and jungle still being cut down so people can have hotel rooms near the coast and play golf in the once vibrant jungles. Too sad.

Data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and NASA show 2005 has topped 1998. "The last 10 years are the warmest 10-year period of the modern record," said NOAA climate monitoring chief Deke Arndt. Saying there's a downward trend since 1998 is not scientifically legitimate.

Polar caps keep melting.
Still way too hot and feel like 2 seasons are missing.
The affects of man-made devises is what contributed to this.
I take it very serious and we living on this planet need to do our best to reverse the problem to get the downward trend.

350.org is an international campaign dedicated to building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis--the solutions that justice demand. Our mission is to inspire the world to rise to the challenge of the climate crisis--to create a new sense of urgency and of possibility for our planet. ... Our focus is on the number 350--as in parts per million, the level scientists have identified as the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere. But 350 is more than a number--it's a symbol of where we need to head as a planet. To tackle climate change we need to move quickly, and we need to act in unison--and 2009 will be an absolutely crucial year. This December, world leaders will meet in Copenhagen, Denmark to craft a new global treaty on cutting emissions. The problem is, the treaty currently on the table doesn't meet the severity of the climate crisis--it doesn't pass the 350 test. In order to unite the public, media, and our political leaders behind the 350 goal, we harnessed the power of the internet to coordinate a planetary day of action on October 24, 2009. We had actions at hundreds of iconic places around the world - from the heights of Mt. Everest to the depths of the Great Barrier Reef to your community - and clear message to world leaders: the solutions to climate change must be equitable, they must be grounded in science, and they must meet the scale of the crisis. If an international grassroots movement holds our leaders accountable to the latest climate science, we can start the global transformation we so desperately need.

I hope that America finally takes responsibility for its part in global climate change and leads the world in reducing carbon emission and also needs to address the damage to the planet that has already ocurred. We have to quit burrying our heads in the sand and address the real problems and not just putting bandaids that won't have any lasting effects.
