From a book by Randall Balmer: “In the fall of 1959, the Rev. Dennis J. Bennett, rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Van Nuys, California, began to speak in tongues. […] the vestry of St. Marks secured Father Bennett’s resignation. […] “We’re Episcopalians, not a bunch of wild-eyed hillbillies”, [said one parishio...ner]. Bishop Francis Eric Bloy of Los Angeles assigned a new priest to Van Nuys and expressly forbade speaking in tongues under Episcopal auspices in his diocese.” I find this description hilarious. What would happen in your diocese should such a thing happen today?Read More

As a long time professor in both online and in class learning, I can say it's important to think in both/and terms rather than either/or. There are some things that on line pedagogy is well suited to deliver, it provides access, and it works very well for many. There are things that in class instruction does very well that learning technology hasn'... Read Moret yet improved upon. Keep an open mind on new ways and preserve what works well until it can be shown that there are better ways or ways that are as good to deliver learning.

We must begin by realizing that theology is not a science but a form of poetry. It is a sigh and an expression of our longing for the inexpressible. So theological statements have no literal content. They are emotive expressions; essentially the same as aesthetic expressions. Indeed, theology is aesthetics, but aesthetics directred toward the ... Once we realize that theology is not knowledge, but rather a habitituation of the senses toward piety and reverence for Being, then we will have made progress.

It be an idea that can be explored further because the ministry of God so badly needs it. Churches are getting older and the youth is leaving and we the current Church needs to look for ways to grow spiritually as well physically.Unless we commit ourselves to HIS ministry the tide will pass us by. The cybernet is a good place to do it! Lets us not be afraid of new ways to spread and teach the word of the Lord and in the same process get our Anglican/Episcopal Church to grow. Praise be to God!!

Let each one go their own way. The Gospel and the Kingdom are much bigger than our differences or our squabbles. At our Lord's table at the end of time, we will all be one and will not be fighting over the silverware!

Rita Sounds like a puzzling battle. If you choose to send your children to a Christian rather than a Muslim school, should you not expect them to keep to Christian rules while there?

While most embrace science and its benefits, strong religious convictions can affect some Americans' willingness to accept certain theories and discoveries. A new report examines the history of science and religion, the debates about them and how the two have been both adversaries and allies.

Interesting report. It always perplexes me though how so such small number believe in evolution, or will believe a literal Creation story (Adam and Eve) over evolution.
Science and religion are more compatible than we think. Our PB, who is a scientist turned theologian explains it wonderfully in her new book. At their best, both science and religion's goals are the same: to better mankind.

I must have missed this interesting development. The Times (London) says 400,000 former Anglicans are ready to move to Rome in response to the Pope's offer. I find this para particularly intriguing: "Archbishop John Hepworth, the twice-married Primate of the Traditional Anglican Communion, who led negotiations with th...e Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome, said he was “profoundly moved” by the Pope’s decision and would immediately seek the approval of the group’s 400,000 members worldwide to join. He described the development as “a moment of grace, perhaps even a moment of history”.Read More
