escape act is an alternative pop group from Belfast, Northern Ireland, formed in April 2006. Our album, ‘Loosely Based On Fiction’ is now available to download free and on special edition digipak CD. The album has received much praise from fans and media, and Steve Lamacq recently chose us as his Unsigned band of the ...week! In June 09 John Richards chose our song Cabin Fever to appear on the influential KEXP Music That Matters podcast. We previously released ‘Hot Air’ - our first EP - in April ‘07, before heading to Chem19 studios in Glasgow to record our debut album. The first single ‘God Says’ was released on June 23rd 2008 on digital and Limited Edition split 7″ vinyl. Originally a three-piece, we now been joined by our friend Ross Neely, bringing additional guitars, vocals and keyboards to the mix. Michael Sampson took over drums in September 09, tho Alan continues to contribute art and design. We’ve commenced work on new recordings with Andy Miller due for release throughout 2010. for more info, bookings etc please contact info@volver.co.uk 4 out of 5 - “With more hooks than an abattoir and slab upon slab of bristling melodies, most strikingly on Corpses Candle and Kings Have Fallen, Loosely Based On Fiction is indie rock in excelsis.” - Hot Press review of Loosely Based On Fiction 8 out of 10 - “These are songs to make your inner indie boy rejoice. The debut album from Belfast’s Escape Act, Loosely Based On Fiction drips indie melodies like tears from the sainted eyes of Morrissey.” - Francis Jones, AU, reviews LBOF. read in full. 17 Seconds on Broken Chin - “Rather like the Strokes, here is a band who have realised that less is definitely more. Pure punky joy.” Devil Has The Best Tuna - “They effortlessly straddle the jangling, punkish new wave of The Undertones and Stiff Little Fingers (’God Says’, ‘Laid Open’ and ‘Jupiter Storms’) and the more melodic harmonies Irish Americana (Irishcana?) of The Thrills (’Broken Chin’ and ‘Sullied Behave For The Moon’). ” “‘Corpses Candle’ … reminds us of the indie majesty of Whipping Boy’s Heartworm” State.ie blog Hot Press reviewed God Says in their 13th July 08 issue... "'God Says' opens with a great meaty pounding guitar riff, before a measured pause for some Jesus & Mary Chain-lite vocals. After that, it's a case of lather, rinse and repeat, no bad thing in this case, serving to reaffirm the listener's faith in simple, sub-three-minute guitar pop. Top marks." by Stephen Errity. ‘”God Says” is a 2.5 minute powerhouse of a record … as infectious as an STD and as much fun as getting it…Top Class.’ BoxSetGo “God Says plays a bit the Pixies, fronted by Mark Kozelek…if God spoke like this, more people would listen. In a word, Heavenly.” David Roy, Irish News "...a blistering burst of Undertones punk guitar and Morrisseyesque vocal that'll have you jumping round the room like a kangeroo on a pogo stick."
