Sam- An ordinary "Joe". Suburban, hard-working New Jersey contractor struggling with psychological insecurities. He is emotionally unpredictable and desperate to connect to his wife Sally who has had an
affair with John. Sam is Chloe's younger brother
John- An affluent head of admissions at a boy's prep school. Preppy, domineering and smugly superior. He is loaded with self-contempt as he faces the stark reality of inoperable cancer. Has had an affair with Sally.
Sally- The artistically inclined, needy, extremely sensitive wife to Sam. She has recently lost her brother to AIDS and has suffered a series of miscarriages that have resulted in subsequent anger and depression. She had a brief affair with John.
Chloe- Sam's sister. High strung, pretentious but at the same time down to earth. A "walking nerve end", clothes-horse, suburban wife and mother. She is a compulsive chatterbox who never seems to stop moving. Despite her ditsy persona, she is in full awareness of how she is
perceived and why she needs to be that way. Her avocation is appearing in community theater musicals. /Some singing and dancing will be
required. /Chloe is married to John and is older sister to Sam.

About the Story
As two couples spend the 4th of July in a house left to one of the women by her brother who has recently died from an AIDS related illness, they mask their fear with desperate wit and hide inside uncomfortable marriages--each character struggling to come to terms with a world of anxious isolation haunted by ever-present death.
