Actions entreprises dans les rues de Montréal des mois après que des dizaines de milliers de personnes aient manifesté à Montréal en solidarité avec Gaza.
Les évènements ont lieu pour commémorer la Naqba (signifiant catastrophe en arabe), lorsqu’il y a soixante et un an, environ 750 000 Palestiniens furent expulsés de leur terre par la création d’Israël en 1948.
Aujourd’hui, environ six millions de réfugiés palestiniens sont des apatrides au Moyen Orient. À travers le monde, ils forment un des plus grands nombres de population déplacée.
Israël maintient aujourd’hui une politique de colonisation envers la Palestine, subjuguant la population palestinienne à une brutale occupation militaire à travers Gaza et la Cisjordanie tout en renforçant l’institutionnalisation de la discrimination contre la population palestinienne en maintenant la citoyenneté israélienne au sein des territoires occupés en 1948 par Israël.
Gaza demeure assiégée alors que les Palestiniens luttent pour tenter de s’en remettre de la massive invasion militaire de l’hiver dernier qui a fait plus de 1400 victimes palestiniennes sans compter les 4300 blessés.
1.5 million de Palestiniens à Gaza, la plupart des réfugiés expulsés par Israël en 1948, sont privés d’accès aux besoins de bases, tel que les médicaments, l’essence, l’eau potable et la nourriture. De plus, la plupart de la population dépend de l’aide humanitaire de l’ONU.
Desmond Tutu, le Sud Africain et lauréat du prix Nobel, a sans cesse appelé pour un arrêt du blocus « abominable » d’Israël à Gaza, tandis que des officiers de l’ONU l’ont qualifié de « prison en plein air ».
En Cisjordanie, Israël continue sa construction du mur d’apartheid comprenant plus de six cent kilomètres de long et étant construit sur les terres palestiniennes, ce qui contrevient au droit international, selon l’ONU.
S’élevant à plus de huit mètres de haut dans certains districts, le mur «de sécurité», avec ses tours de surveillance militaires et longé de tranchées de fil barbelé, est devenu pour le monde entier le symbole de la dépossession palestinienne et de l’apartheid israélien.
En 2004, la Cour de justice internationale, la plus haute instance juridique mondiale, a jugé le mur illégal, alors que l’Assemblée Générale de l’ONU a voté avec une grande majorité pour une résolution appelant Israël à mettre fin à la construction du mur.
En réponse aux politiques israéliennes d’apartheid, on se rallie au mouvement international grandissant appelant au boycott, désinvestissement et sanctions contre l’apartheid d’Israël; un mouvement qui prend de l’ampleur à travers le monde et qui provient d’autant d’un appel de plus de 170 organisations de la société civile palestinienne que de divers mouvements sociaux à travers le monde.
Aussi, nous nous mobilisons dans les rues de Montréal pour manifester contre la position extrêmement pro-israélienne adoptée par le gouvernement conservateur actuel qui a exprimé un support inébranlable pour les actions militaires d’Israël en Palestine et à travers le Moyen-Orient, notamment le bombardement du Liban en 2006.

Join us on the streets for two events organized just months after tens-of-thousands protested in Montreal in solidarity with Gaza.
Events occurring to commemorate the Nakba (catastrophe in Arabic), as sixty-one years ago an estimated 750 000 Palestinians were expelled from their lands through the creation of Israel in 1948.
Today an estimated six-million Palestinian refugees remain stateless in the Middle East and around the world. Palestinians make-up one of the biggest displaced populations in the world.
Israel today maintains a colonial policy towards Palestine, as the Palestinian population is subjected to a brutal military occupation throughout the West Bank and Gaza, while Israel continues enforcing an institutionalized discrimination against the Palestinian population maintaining Israeli citizenship within 1948 territories occupied by Israel.
Gaza remains under siege, as Palestinians struggles to recover from the massive Israeli military assault this past winter that killed over 1,400 Palestinians and injured approximately 4,300 others.
1.5 million Palestinians in Gaza, the majority of whom are refugees expelled by Israel in 1948, are denied adequate access to basic necessities like fuel, medicine, clean water and food, while the majority of the population relies on U.N. relief.
Desmond Tutu, the South African Nobel laureate, has repeatedly called for an end to the “abominable” Israeli blockade of Gaza and U.N. officials have described Gaza as an “open air prison.”
In the West Bank, Israel continues to construct the apartheid wall, running over six-hundred kilometers long, being built on Palestinian lands that “violates international law”, according to the U.N.
Towering over eight meters high in certain districts, fortified with armed military watchtowers and surrounded by razor wire trenches for many throughout the world, the Israeli “security” wall has become a symbol of Palestinian dispossession and Israeli apartheid.
In 2004, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the highest legal body in the world, deemed the wall illegal. In addition, the U.N. general assembly voted in 2004, with a strong majority, for a resolution calling on Israel to halt the wall’s construction.
In response to Israel’s apartheid policies, we stand with the growing international movement calling for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel apartheid. This movement is picking-up momentum around the world and is rooted in the 2005 call from over 170 Palestinian civil society organizations to social movements around the world.
We also take to the streets in Montreal to protest the extreme pro-Israel position expressed by the current Conservative government of Canada, that has expressed unwavering support for Israel’s military actions in Palestine, the Middle East and including support for the massive bombardment against Lebanon in 2006.
Join us for these actions in Montreal to express solidarity with the Palestinian refugees and to support the growing international movement for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel’s apartheid.
