Reporter Laura Ling and producer Euna Lee, who work for San Francisco-based Current TV -- a media venture founded by former Vice President Al Gore, were arrested March 17 near the North Korean border while reporting on refugees living in China. Both women, accused by North Korea of crossing into the country illegally from China and committing “hostile acts,” will be tried on criminal charges on June 4th. These women have done nothing wrong. They are being detained and tried without just cause.
Laura’s sister, reporter Lisa Ling, will be doing interviews on June 1st for NBC’s The Today Show during the 7am time block and Larry King Live that evening. We are asking for the community of Portland to show their support for immediate and swift release of our girls by attending a prayer vigil Wed June 3rd at 630 pm. The vigil is being held at the same time Laura and Euna are being tried for crimes they DID NOT committ.
Revered David Alexander, Spiritual Leader for New Thought Center for Spiritual Living, will be leading our vigil. Together we can make a difference. Laura and Euna are woman who have stood up for those who could not stand up for themselves. They have reported on stories many would never do. I am asking you to be their voice, their courage, their strength and stand beside me for one hour to gain to the world’s attention to get our sisters home.
