Earlier this year, Richard Hawkes’ own innovative house near Staplehurst, Kent featured on Grand Designs. The house went on to be shortlisted for the 2009 RIBA Awards; and has attracted much interest.
Crossway:
- Features a 20m vaulted roof of 26,000 locally-made clay tiles cemented together
- Incorporates pioneering energy systems monitored by the University of Cambridge
- Uses recycled materials extensively and innovatively
- Is regarded as one of the first zero carbon houses in the UK
