Description
:: Doors open at 7PM ::
Pecha Kucha Night is an international phenomenon where artists, designers, and creative minds come together for a live, high-energy extravaganza. The Pecha Kucha format, 20 slides for 20 seconds each, allows 8-16 presenters only 6 minutes and 40 seconds each to strut their stuff. This keeps presentations concise and the interest level up.
Champaign-Urbana’s first Pecha Kucha will feature presenters Michael Trott, with computational Mathematica-based artwork; Miriam Martincic, on the stories behind her drawings and sculpture; Deborah Fell, an internationally renowned quilt artist; confectionery artist Buffy Vance; lighting and theater designers David Warfel and Andy Warfel; Paul Brooks on his “heard around the world” creative wedding at Taco Bell; Erik M. Hemingway, principal of hemingway+a/studio based in Chicago and Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Illinois; Bob Zordani and Heidi Kellner with the Art of the Craftsman; Jason Berg, explaining the power of illustrations; and Chicago-based knitting queens Thelma T. Uranga and Stephanie Manriquez. Rock-geek lovin’, Spineless Books-ownin’, radio-show hostin’ William Gillespie and Cristy Scoggins will be our emcees for the night.
Pecha Kucha Night, devised by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham (Klein Dytham Architecture), was conceived in 2003 in Tokyo and has tapped into a demand that has spread virally to now over 217 cities globally.
