Description

Not all fundraisers are created equal. Some - like the upcoming Rivers Rock! “Blackwater • Bluegrass” – offer event-goers a little more for their money.

On Thursday, October 8, the second annual Rivers Rock! will take place at Moon River Brewing Company in downtown Savannah. Sponsored by Better Environments & Southern Eagle Distributors, Queensborough National Bank & Trust, the Young Professionals of Savannah, Jeanne LaSala & Jim Abbot, Storm Water Systems, the City of Savannah, Bernard Williams & Co. and Fred Williams Homebuilder, Inc., this year’s event promises to be a kicking good time. The night’s theme is “Blackwater • Bluegrass” and will feature live music by The Packway Handle Band, a bluegrass quintet out of Athens. All proceeds from “Blackwater • Bluegrass” will benefit Ogeechee-Canoochee and Satilla Riverkeepers, two groups dedicated to the protection of our precious coastal river resources and ecosystems.

Ogeechee-Canoochee Riverkeeper was formed in 2005. Its mission is to protect the Ogeechee, Canoochee and coastal rivers and ensure clean water throughout the watershed. By raising awareness and aggressively responding to critical issues with the commitment and support of a dedicated network, OCRK is a voice for rivers, coast and people.

Further south, Satilla Riverkeeper works toward its vision of a blackwater river that supports healthy fisheries, safe swimming, diverse wildlife populations, superb recreational opportunities, a stable water supply, and sustainable human economic activity throughout the basin. The Riverkeeper organization conducts efforts to educate, inform, enforce, research, and litigate on issues in the Satilla River basin to meet these goals.

In celebration of the rivers themselves, and in support of those who work tirelessly to protect them, Rivers Rock! invites “Blackwater • Bluegrass” guests to a night of live bluegrass, a signature Moon River brew and environmentally-friendly goody bags chock full of local favorites. Attendees will also be eligible to win raffle items that include kayaks, an iPod Nano, a fully-customized bicycle and much more.

“Blackwater • Bluegrass” is co-chaired by Candice Connell, Summer Teal Simpson, Kelly Weber and Ashleigh Womack and boasts a long list of hosts dedicated to throwing the best benefit of the season… a good time for a great cause.
