Description
WOODEN
Laura Peterson
Wooden is a dance for four people and a large installed set, which includes natural elements such as living trees, bound branches and stone. In many architectural designs there is a sense of movement. I've been studying contemporary architectural installations and their conceptual foundations for both the choreography I envision and the set design that is integral to this piece. These architectural works and others like them are in part about time. They are made from natural resources such as trees and branches and are built with the idea that they will grow into fuller, newer shapes. That they will be affected by weather and decay, the vagaries of time and change are considered in the design. The parallels for movement vocabulary are full of possibility.
Wooden will be developed through the HERE Artist-in-Residence program through 2010.
These company members are contributing artists: Kate Martel, Stephanie Miracle and Christopher Hutchings as dancers. Jon Pope is Laura Peterson Choreography's production manager and Mandy Ringger is resident lighting designer.
