Description
The Amelia Island Museum of History invites the public to our next 3rd Friday on 3rd Street presentation, Friday, July 17th at 5:30 p.m. This month features Dr. Bill Birdsong who is a native Floridian and a retired Obstetrician-Gynecologist (US Air Force and the University of California, Davis). He completed a MA in Anthropology at the University of Hawaii and has been active in the Museum as a docent, lecturer, and in education. Bill will give a brief history of treatment of gunshot wounds in the Civil War. After this background, he will tell the stories of three famous people and their injuries: Joshua Chamberlain, who was left for dead; Albert Sydney Johnston, who died but could have been saved by a device he carried; Jenny Wade, a love story about the only civilian to die at Gettysburg. Admission is free for museum members and $5 for non-members. For more information, contact the museum at 261-7378.
